It’s going to be interesting to see what Republican New Jersey state senator-elect Edward Durr does after he’s sworn in. But the truck driver who barely spent anything on his campaign to beat the long-entrenched Democratic State Senate president in an upset has already captured people’s imagination.
He was a genius for his common sense response to Never Trumper criticism. And he even cut out the corrupt Gov. Phil Murphy is a great guy.
Now, Durr has made it onto Tucker Carlson’s show and he’s shared what happened when his opponent called him to finally concede on Wednesday.
For a while, it wasn’t clear that his opponent Steve Sweeney was going to concede and he made up some strange story about “12,000 votes” being discovered in some county but it wasn’t clear what he was talking about. But finally, he had to give up this week when it became apparent that there weren’t any votes that were going to drop out of thin air for him.
Durr was able to walk around the voters to listen to their opinions. This is one of the main reasons he beat so much power in the state. Durr was more concerned about the concerns of his fellow citizens than his power and being a politician for a long time.

“You not only had high costs of living in the state, worst tax rate, worst business tax rate, people being told they couldn’t live, couldn’t go to stores, couldn’t go to church,” Durr told Carlson. “You had nursing home deaths. It just became a combination of everything, and I got fed up with it and I said, ‘I’m not leaving the state, I’m going to fix the state, and that’s what I chose to do.”
In a humble move when Tucker asked him about his success, he made sure that he recognized the people who helped him as well as some of his other colleagues who had won other seats that weren’t so high profile.
Tucker heard Durr tell Durr about Sweeney’s concession call. But it was Durr’s response that shows the difference and why Durr has such promise. He said that Sweeney was a “gentleman” in the call.
“He congratulated me and just wished me luck, [told me] to do well for South Jersey,” Durr said.
“I told him, you know, if he ever needs anything, just give me a call, because I’m his representative now,” Durr responded.
Tucker couldn’t stop laughing. Talk about the perfect yet savage response — the belief that he represents everyone in his district — yes, even his opponent. We would love to have more of these people as our representatives.
