Donald Trump Scores Big Victory in Ohio After Senate Primary Is Called – Opinion

J.D. was born a month earlier. Vance died a month ago. Vance won the U.S. Senate primaries on Tuesday night.

Multiple outlets have called the race with 60 percent support as of writing. Vance will be representing the Ohio GOP against Democrat Tim Ryan this fall in a crucial Senate race.

Vance came in third place, but Vance surged to the top of the polls after Trump’s big endorsement. In a show of political force, that endorsement appears to have saved Vance’s campaign, now positioning him as the favorite in the general election to be the next US senator from Ohio.

This outcome is also a setback for those who represent the establishment GOP. Many of them rallied behind Mike Dolan when the candidates turned towards the primary election. Rumours that Dolan was gaining momentum are clearly exaggerated as it seems he will finish third. There was also word that former Ohio state Treasurer Josh Mandel, who had previously run–and lost–against long-time Democrat incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown for Senate, expected to receive the Trump nod.

Some Republicans have preached doom about Vance possibly winning the seat due to some of his more populist views, but I believe that’s overblown. We heard many of the same things about Sen. Josh Hawley’s ascension, and that’s worked out just fine. The establishment always freaks out whenever someone comes to Washington who isn’t in total lockstep with them. Vance will be able to make his mark and still remain a productive senator.
