Did the Freedom Convoy Just Haul Away With A Victory? One Domino Falls At Midnight – Opinion

Over the past few weeks, Canada’s Freedom Convoy has been through a lot. Canadians have been subject to a lot of misinformation and propaganda from their government, via state-run media. Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister, has said that convoy participants are everything: racists, racist Americans disguised in Canada to racist Americans who don’t care to conceal their racism. They have been attacked viciously in their media by the antifa protesters, who are the same media that has praised Antifa protesters and Black Live Matters activists who showed up in force to beat the pandemic heat, long before there were vaccines.

Trudeau seems to be digging in his fancy Christian Loubitin heels, refusing to admit that he’s out over his skis on this one, but is there a sign that the dam is breaking, or the dominos are falling or insert your favorite metaphor here?

Alberta is considered one of Canada’s most conservative provinces, with a large blue collar workforce attached to the oil and gas industry. RedState recently reported that Alberta’s Premier Jason Kenney is considering pulling down COVID regulations in the province. Kenney stated to Canadian media that Kenney felt Canadians were a little too inflexible about the violations of civil rights during recent years. Kenney was certain to emphasize that the Freedom Convoy had no influence on his decision.

Now, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney has announced that they would be moving to end restrictions, starting with dropping the restriction exemption program (Alberta’s vaccine passport). Kenney indicated that they would review all trends and data, but were currently working on plans to eliminate almost all restrictions within the month. Kenney said that they should prioritize lifting restrictions on children. He of course said this was due to “public health” and not the protests. He claimed that they believed to have passed Omicron peak around three weeks back.

Despite his announcement, protests continue to rage. On Tuesday, Rebel News, a Canadian news outlet, reported that Alberta had dropped its vaccine mandate.

But it’s not just because of truckers. Obviously.

We know this because truckers. Guys like Kenney and Trudeau aren’t sitting around completely unbothered by the protests. They have an effect on supply, morale, and international reputations. It is grossly naive to believe that the Freedom Convoy truckers haven’t played a huge part in the speed at which this has developed. Perhaps Alberta – like everywhere else – would have eventually gotten around to it, but who knows how long that would have taken without pressure? That’s not to mention the fact that had the truckers simply not bothered, it would have served to further embolden the tyrannical instincts of their parliamentary overlords. They would have seen that Canadians would tolerate tyranny indefinitely, and they would remember that for the next ‘crisis.’

The Freedom Convoy isn’t easy on anyone. It’s cold, uncomfortable, and the residents affected are surely outraged at the disruption to their lives. There’s no doubt it’s an inconvenience for all involved.

Freedom is not always easy. The U.S. wishes our friends truckers in the Great White North all the success. They fight for everyone. Alberta should be a beacon of hope.
