Did Kyle Rittenhouse Just Get Cancelled? – Opinion

While the news around Kyle Rittenhouse has greatly subsided since his rightful acquittal of multiple charges of murder, RedState reported yesterday that “social justice” groups on the campus of Arizona State University were rallying to get Kyle Rittenhouse disenrolled from the state school.

Here’s a taste of what the far-left demands looked like.

“Even with a not-guilty verdict from a flawed ‘justice’ system — Kyle Rittenhouse is still guilty to his victims and the families of those victims,” the groups’ Instagram statement reads. “Join us to demand from ASU that these demands be met to protect students from a violent, blood-thirsty murderer.”

Those demands include that ASU withdraw Rittenhouse’s enrollment, put out a statement condemning “racist murderer” Rittenhouse and white supremacy in general, and redirect funding from campus police to the ASU Multicultural Center.

All that is required of him is insane. Rittenhouse is not guilty to his victims…because he had no victims. He defended himself against felons including a child-rapist who tried to kill Rittenhouse. He did not break any laws, and he was allowed to use his gun when he chose. While the families of those men have a right to grieve regardless of the circumstances, that doesn’t change the fact that Rittenhouse is not beholden to them as this letter proclaims.

Further, Rittenhouse is clearly not a “blood-thirsty murderer” given the fact that he only shot in self-defense. Had he shown up that night just wanting to shoot people, he had many more opportunities to do so and didn’t. These facts cannot be disputed. The mention of white supremacy in this context is defamatory, and it’s completely unsupported by evidence.

Anyway, after those requests were made, we asked how ASU would answer. We might be able to find the answer but details remain murky at this point. This information is from Phoenix New Times.

Monday’s official statement was: Phoenix New Times, ASU described Rittenhouse as “not enrolled.”

Rittenhouse testified during his trial earlier this month that he was a student at ASU, studying nursing. ASU later confirmed Rittenhouse’s non-degree status and that he had taken online courses. He has finished the semester in which he was enrolled.

It’s not clear when, how, or why his status at the university changed, and spokespeople there did not reply to further inquires from New Times On the subject, there was no campus debate about him possible arrival.

Rittenhouse had been scheduled to complete his semester by the week’s end. Rittenhouse had publicly stated his desire to continue at ASU online, as well as to attend ASU in person. But that doesn’t seem to be the case. Is that really what has happened? What happened?

I’m not quite ready to say that yet. Rittenhouse recently stated that while he intends to keep his nursing career at ASU, he has also indicated that he could consider becoming a lawyer. Additionally, Rittenhouse had dropped two classes in the past before the trial. He may have dropped all of the classes on his own. You couldn’t blame the guy for wanting to take a break. But what makes this even weirder, per the New Times, is that ASU responded to them by stating Rittenhouse hadn’t gone through the admissions process, insinuating he has never been a student there.
