DeSantis Defends Support for Parental Rights, ‘Stop WOKE’ Bills ‘Like a Boss’ as Hecklers Try to Interrupt – Opinion

We’re in, what, week three or four now of the mainstream media and Democrats continuing to pump out a steady stream of lies and misinformation about the parental rights bill in Florida that they’ve deliberately mislabeled as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. Fortunately for parents in the Sunshine State, that hasn’t deterred Gov. Ron DeSantis defended the bill, praising it at the end of the most recent legislative session.

During a Monday press conference, DeSantis talked up the accomplishments of the Florida legislature during the 2022 legislative session, and in particular praised them on their efforts on the public education front, specifically on the “Stop WOKE” act and the parental rights bill, both of which have gotten a lot of attention from the usual corners because the Usual Suspects can’t stand it when Republicans are proactive in making sure the radical agendas of the left don’t take root in public school classrooms.

DeSantis mentioned at one time that the legislature prioritized transparency for parents as well as the protection of school children against indoctrination. He was interrupted by hecklers, just as they were at the start of the presser. They could be heard in the background trying to interrupt him, but he continued speaking right above them and didn’t miss a beat.

DeSantis, at about 20 minutes into the clip below, claps back to a reporter about a question about his concern about businesses boycotting Florida over the bill regarding parental rights. DeSantis said that it was insane to imagine a business boycotting a state because of a Florida bill that would give parents more control over the education of their children in sensitive topics. “I think people [who think businesses will abandon the state] need to get out of their bubble and actually talk to parents in this state” because parents “do not want” the sexualization of children to happen in Florida. “We want our kids to be kids,” DeSantis, a parent himself, told the reporter.

He also reminded those in attendance that Florida had a “great business climate” even during the coronavirus pandemic where a lot of other states were forcing businesses to close or operate at reduced capacity.

Watch:

DeSantis, however, is correct. There will be few if any businesses in the state that pack up and move or otherwise adjust their operating model as a result of the parental rights bill, specifically for reasons he mentioned Thursday when he talked about Disney’s CEO voicing objections to it.

He noted that Disney had been a very family-friendly destination for children over the years. Because of that reputation, they are going to have a hard time explaining to parents who have enjoyed vacationing at Disney parks with their kids over the years why they’re opposed to a bill that protects kids and enshrines parental rights when it comes to discussions of sexual subject matters in public school classrooms.

This will apply to any business who has publicly opposed the bill. They, too, will have to explain to customers and clients who specifically ask why they object to a bill that doesn’t say what critics say it does. Many people won’t want to do this. And for any business that decides to leave the state over it, Florida is better off without them, in my humble opinion, because fewer things are more important in this country – especially at this point and time – than the ability of parents to be able to take a more active role in what their children are taught.
