While Democrats focus on January 6th, ordinary Americans feel the pinch right where it matters most: their wallets.
Gas prices are at an all-time high, reaching new levels almost every day. This is putting a strain on family finances and driving up gas prices. Biden’s administration responded by doing little and, in some ways, making the problem worse. Instead of prioritizing domestic oil supply, which would lower today’s speculative prices, the president has stopped federal leases from being renewed and has focused on other boondoggles, such as building more solar panels.
Things aren’t any better with Democrats in Congress. Senator Debbie Stabenow from Michigan, who is a relative fossil in Washington decided to defy reality and lecture fellow Democrats on Tuesday about how ridiculous it was to rely solely on gas for transportation.

Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI):
“On the issue of gas prices, I drove my electric vehicle from Michigan to here last weekend and went by every gas station and it didn’t matter how high it was.”

The mileage between Detroit and D.C. was approximately 520 miles. Given the traffic she likely hit along the way through various major cities, it’s probable she had to find a place to charge at least twice, depending on what kind of electric car she has. This would have added several hours to her journey, even if there were no lines. It is obvious that the notion she has just returned from her trip home is bogus.
Regardless, if someone wants to buy an electric car, I’m actually all for that. I wish all those who are able to afford one and have families that can make it practical.
The snobbishness and elitism displayed is amazing. How about the single mom with $8,000 for a car? An electric vehicle is the best option for her, considering that it costs more than $55,000 to buy one. Imagine if a single mom was to give her an electric car. How would she charge it in her home?
What about the contractor that needs a truck for work? He is likely to have to wait for the Ford Lightning delivery to arrive in two years. And that’s assuming he can make do with a half ton.
The point is that this message of “just go buy an electric car” is insulting and completely devoid of reality. It’s also incredibly dumb politically. Democrats who continue to push such absurdity deserve the shaming that’s coming. Although electric cars may be useful, smart energy policy is the best alternative.
Republicans need to keep hammering away at the idea that this “transition” is worth it. It’s not; it’s self-destructive, and it makes America more reliant on its adversaries. It will end up being the one that relies on domestic energy production.
