‘Damage Control Mode’: ABC/NBC Pile on Biden for Second Night in A Row

For the second night in a row, Thursday, the nightly news newscasts of ABC and NBC piled on Biden for his dumpster fire of a press conference from Wednesday afternoon, as well as his overall tenure in office. Biden, according to one of the news networks was in “damage control mode” when he spoke.

NBC Nightly News led off their broadcast with a poll released from their network which showed Biden has the second-worst approval rating of any first-year president in the history of the poll. Anchor Lester Holt announced the topline numbers by stating Biden is “ending his first year in office with a 43 percent approval rating. Biden, the predecessor to Donald Trump, was the only president with a worse 1st-year figure.

Holt made sure that Holt reported on the international fallout of Biden’s gaffe, in which Holt suggested it was okay if Russia invaded Ukraine. “The White House has been consumed by repairing the immediate damage caused yesterday’s marathon news conference remarks about possible Russian infiltration into Ukraine.”

Holt brought Peter Alexander, NBC Chief White House Correspondent to break down the shocking results for Biden’s poll:

Our new NBC News survey shows that America’s assessment of President Biden one year later is not encouraging. Only 43 percent of his overall approval ratings. Over half the Americans are dissatisfied. 53 percent are unhappy with his handling of the pandemic. On the economic front, six in ten of them disapprove.

Alexander next revealed “On Wednesday the President raised alarm bells in Europe, suggesting that NATO and the U.S. would respond based on the extent of an invasion by Russia” Alexander added Biden’s remarks. “Received a rare rebuke by Ukraine’s President tweeting that “there are not minor incursions, as well as minor casualties.”

You can also watch the ABC News’ “In The Moment” video. World News Tonight, Anchor David Muir during his coverage of Biden’s blunders announced “President Biden & the White House [are]”Damage control mode” after the marathon news conference.

Wow. Biden’s embarrassing behavior has made liberal media look bad.

LESTER HOLTZ: Hello. This is a snapshot of an uneasy nation, and one that shows a president who seems to be struggling to meet key needs. The economy, covid and his ability to unify the nation are just a few of the key takeaways of a brand new NBC national poll. It was conducted on the anniversary of President Joe Biden’s inauguration. His approval rating was 43% at the end of his first year in office. Donald Trump is the new president with a worst first year number than his predecessor Biden. Tonight, however, the White House is occupied with fixing immediate damage caused by remarks that the President made yesterday at a marathon news conference regarding a possible Russian invasion into Ukraine. Ron Klain, White House Chief Of Staff, will answer my questions about this. Here’s Peter Alexander.

PETER ALEXANDER – One year into his term, America’s scorecard for President Biden has been grim, as revealed by a new NBC News poll. Only 43% of his overall approval ratings. Over half the Americans are dissatisfied. 53% of Americans are dissatisfied with the way he handled the pandemic. On the economy, six in 10 are dissatisfied with his performance. This is despite the President praising his accomplishments on Wednesday.

JOE BIDEN, PRESIDENT: Do you know of another President that has accomplished as many things in one year.

ALEXANDER Today, President Biden attempted to clarify what punishment Russia could face for invading Ukraine.

BIDEN: Any Russian unit that has been assembled crosses the Ukrainian border is considered to be an invasion. Russia will be paying a high price if Putin chooses this option.

ALEXANDER

Biden: That depends on the nature of what it is. It’s one thing if it’s a minor incursion.

ALEXANDER: That earned a rare rebuke from Ukraine’s President, tweeting “there are no minor incursions, just as there are no minor casualties.” President Biden also seemed to question the integrity of America’s midterm elections this fall if Democrat’s voting rights legislation fails.

BIDEN: I’m not saying it’s going to be legit. Indirect proportion to our inability to pass these reforms, the likelihood of becoming illegitimate has increased.

ALEXANDER – The White House insists that the President didn’t intend to cast doubt on this election.

DAVIDMUIR: Tonight, President Biden, and the White House, are in damage control mode following the marathon news conference. His comments on Russia and his response to Vladimir Putin suggest that any reaction to Putin will depend on the actions of the White House along the Ukrainian border. This suggests one possible scenario is, quote, a minor incursion into Ukraine. The president of Ukraine was stunned by this and immediately responded, saying that there’s no such thing as minor incursion. Mary Bruce, our White House Senior Correspondent tonight.

MARY BRUCE – President Biden tried today to quell the ruckus after comments made by him about Russia’s possible invasion of Ukraine. This prompted international alarm.

JOE BIDDEN: Russia is responsible for any invasions. It all depends on its actions. If it is a small incursion then that’s fine. But if the invasion becomes major, we will have to fight over what to do.

BRUCE

BIDEN – If any of the assembled Russian units cross over to Ukraine’s border, it is considered an invasion. However, it will be met by a severe and coordinated economic response. This has been discussed with our allies as well as laid out for President Putin. Russia will be paying a high price if Putin chooses this option, there is no question.

BRUCE. It was clear that the White House knew about President Zelinsky’s comments, which caused concern among European allies as well as within Ukraine. Zelinsky, the Ukrainian president tweeted that “There are not minor incursions or small nations.” The loss of loved one’s is not a cause for grievousness, but there aren’t any minor casualties. Prior to meeting with U.S. allies Germany, Secretary of State Blinken sought to assure America’s friends.

ANTONY BLINKEN : Any Russian military forces that move over the Ukrainian border to commit additional acts of aggression against Ukraine will receive a strong, uncompromising response from America and its allies.

MUIR Secretary Blinken is today. Mary Bruce will be live with us tonight from the White House. Mary also clarified another comment made by the President yesterday. He was asked if the midterm elections would be valid this year given Washington’s inability to pass a voting rights bill. He replied with two words: It depends. That was the subject of many questions. He appeared to be unsure if the elections would actually take place.

BRUCE: David, the President’s saying these restrictive new voting laws in some Republican-led states are going to make it more difficult for some Americans to vote, and he said that could increase the prospect that the vote will be illegitimate. Although the President stated that he is still hopeful they will implement reforms, the White House clarified today, saying that the President is certain the midterms are legitimate. David?

MUIR: Mary Bruce is back at the White House tonight. Mary, thank you.
