CNN Killjoy: ‘Vastly Premature’ to ‘Talk About Trump in an Orange Jumpsuit’

As we’ve noted before, here, and here, CNN’s Elie Honig has a habit of throwing cold water on the fever dreams of the left. On Wednesday morning, Day of the NewThe CNN legal analyst, a former federal prosecutor, pulled out the ice bucket once more. It was this time in response to the excited liberal speculation that Donald Trump could be facing criminal charges by the Justice Department for January 6.

Those optimistic views are based upon comments made by Merrick Galrland and Lester Holt to NBC’s Holt. In which, the AG stated to Holt that his office would bring charges against anyone who hindered the peaceful transfer of power.

News that former chief of staff Marc Short was interviewed by the Department of Justice, a Trump administration official, buoyed lefty’s optimism. Short had intimate knowledge of Trump’s actions and statements.

John Berman interviewed Honig and he used a metaphor of mountain climbing to temper liberal enthusiasm.

Imagine you are climbing up a mountain and your efforts pay off. Eventually, you reach the top and they ask you questions about Donald Trump. That’s a momentous thought. It’s momentous.

Then you see him and realize that he is a very high-stakes target. DOJ sometimes does send targeted letters. You can see a higher, more rockier way to reach indictment if you look up. This is an enormous leap between investigating and indictment.

You will be convicted, which is a long way away, up and miles in the distance. It’s even harder. From here to indictment and conviction is an extremely long, treacherous road.

This is why it’s so important. Donald Trump wearing an orange jumpsuit is not something that should be discussed. It’s a far too early time, and the world isn’t even close to that.

Honig is such a killer!

Berman agreed with Honig’s metaphor of mountain climbing, saying that it made him sound like he was telling people to stop, take a rest, have some trail mix and not “bonk,” which is a term used for feeling exhausted suddenly after exertion. Berman had the experience of “bonking” when he ran the Boston Marathon last year. After that, he spent three days in hospital.

CNN’s New Day features Elie Honig as a legal analyst for CNN. He said that talking about Donald Trump wearing an orange jumpsuit is premature. Liberty Mutual, Sleep Number and Salonpas sponsored the interview.

JOHNBERMAN – Merrick Garland was very vocal on TV and did not answer many questions Lester Holt asked him. We now know that Elie is not there.

ELIE HONIG : Yes, I think so. It’s Merrick Garland’s daily affirmation. He says that we will take the facts as they lead us. He can only say that and I won’t be too glib.

I would like to, but let’s make it analogous. We are all outdoorsmen.

Then, there’s the matter of conviction. It is an extremely steep, treacherous and long road to get from here to indictment.

This is why it’s so important. Donald Trump wearing an orange jumpsuit is not something that should be discussed. It’s a far too early time, and the world isn’t even close to that.

BERMAN – Time to mix some trails on the climb.

HONIG: Does that sound like what people outside eat?

BERMAN

HONIG: M&M’s mostly.

BERMAN: Don’t bonk.

BRIANNA KEILAR: Totally M&Ms, mostly.
