CNN: ‘Civil Disobedience’ from the Freedom Convoy Can’t Be ‘Tolerated’

CNN’s anti-Freedom Convey correspondent Paula Newton was at it again Wednesday as she desperately tried to smear the peaceful Canadian protest against their COVID restrictions. Newton stated throughout the day that the Canadians should be fearful and a danger to the country. She even suggested that their “civil disobedience” can’t be “tolerated” because “what can happen next?”

On the afternoon CNN Newsroom, Newton claimed things on the ground in Canada were “Not in the best place” as the protest was set to enter its second week.

And after seemingly slipping up and admitting the “truckers here are not just dug in, they are getting support from every element of society here who says that they are sick and tired of the pandemic,” Newton caught herself and declared they were only “Although they represent a minority in Canada, these people are very vocal..”

She also chided those working-class folks by proclaiming “They are determined, and they seem able to cause chaos wherever they go.”

Newton also gawked as she couldn’t wrap her mind around the idea that the truckers even had support from the vaccinated who were fed up with the “insanity” (Click “expand”):

NEWTON: I have one thing to say. This is not just about truckers. Listen to the people who came here by car, drove for five hours and now they are spending the week in this area. They also claim that they have been vaccinated. Listen.

UNIDENTIFIED WOMAN: 100%

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yup. Double dose, got my QR code —

UNIDENTIFIED WOMAN – I sold and made masks in the beginning. However, when you continue doing the exact same thing and expecting to get a different result, it’s insane. Right now, we are crazy. It seems that we keep repeating the same thing over and over. It doesn’t seem like anything is ever changing.

NEWTON: This is what they want. They are asking for a complete overhaul of vaccine and mask mandates. It is not what they desire.

Ana Cabrera, the host of that segment, looked disgustingly at the photos as they wrapped up. “[R]eminds me of a sight I would find …  at a rest area seeing these truckers just hanging out, not certainly what I would expect in the heart of a major city,” she huffed.

Later in the day, on Jake Tapper’s The Lead, Newton argued that the Freedom Convoy couldn’t take credit for multiple provinces announcing they’ll be rolling back their COVID restrictions and suggested they would never be content:

You get more than Saskatchewan. It is Alberta, it’s Quebec. This is happening because the Omicron wave is peaking and these provincial leaders have always said, “Look, when we can, we will roll them back.”

Does it satisfy truckers? No. I mean, what’s happened here, Jake, is they are looking for so much more than that. These leaders don’t want to return restrictions, no matter how COVID goes.

Newton stepped on her message that the peaceful protesters should be feared by saying the gathering “looks more like a tailgate party.” She again caught herself slipping. Opining that “Fear is real,” she claimed to have spoken with people all “around Canada” who fret “They fear what could happen next if civil disobedience like this is tolerable.

These numbers are increasing hourly,” she declared.

This is the same CNN that supported the Black Lives Matter Riots of 2020 and dubbed them “FIERY BUT MOSTLY PEACEFUL.” They also didn’t have an issue with the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) in Seattle, Washington where people were being killed.

ANA CABRERA : Paula these protests have been ongoing for almost two weeks. It has reached an entirely new level, but are things still the same?

PAULA NEWTON: I’m not in a great place. Ana. This has been happening right where I am — week two is underway, right? Truckers are receiving support from all parts of society who say they’re tired of the pandemic.

Ana, this group is very minority. But they have the ability to cause chaos everywhere they go. Miguel has said that it only takes one or two cars to cause chaos.

I want to show you where I am now, I’m in front of Parliament Hill. It would feel like you were in Washington’s Capitol Hill, but it is blocked by trucks and cars. Ana, you are so ridiculous that I can see the prime minister’s offices over there to my right. Is it possible to imagine everything being blocked now?

Here’s the thing: this isn’t about just truckers. Listen to the people who came here by car, drove for five hours and now they are spending the week there. They also claim that they have been vaccinated. Listen.

Miguel was also talking with me about the havoc they’re causing at this bridge. This could have serious consequences for the United States and Canada. Another border crossing is available. This protest, which saw Montana and Alberta protest the I-15, has been ongoing almost as long.

I have been in contact with the mayor of that city. I have been in contact with the police. Ana, there isn’t an easy solution, because police want to avoid violence and confrontation.

This thought is just for you. Ana has left behind a few trucks that housed people who used their trucks to live here and were here almost for two weeks. Ana, these trucks are home to children and families. Just the other day, I saw them delivering baby wipes and diapers. Police in the city also say that this situation is a problem. Ana.

CABRERA: Being a west-educated girl, the scene you’re seeing, Paula in this live shot, is a visual that reminds me of what it would be like to see truckers on the sidelines at rest areas. Not what I would have expected in the middle of major cities.

JAKE TAPPER: CNN’s Paula Newton joins us now live from Ottawa. Paula also mentioned that some parts of Canada may be considering reducing vaccine mandates. Saskatchewan is one example. Are these welcome developments for the protesters? Is it possible to take credit?

NEWTON: It’s more than Saskatchewan. You can’t just call it Saskatchewan. It is Alberta, it’s Quebec. This is happening because the Omicron wave is peaking and these provincial leaders have always said, “Look, when we can, we will roll them back.”

Does it satisfy truckers? It is not. I mean, what’s happened here, Jake, is they are looking for so much more than that. These leaders don’t want to return restrictions, no matter how COVID goes.

Jake, I’d like to give you a quick tour. You said that we are right in front parliament. You can see parliament. It looks more like a tailgate event now that it is entering its second week. The couple tells us that they are not planning on moving.

What’s been incredible to me is, if you look over here, Jake, that’s the prime’s office. The vehicles have been sitting outside of the office for more than two weeks now, according to me.

But, what is actually happening is that politicians are now starting to work together. It is amazing to see the potential. The fear I’ve heard about everyday citizens. Jake, Jake is not the only one who fears for their safety. This fear is very real.

Think about what just happened in Toronto these last hours. According to police, who said on social media that they were hearing rumors of another protest popping up so they went and sealed off the provincial legislature. It is becoming more serious every hour. Jake.

TAPPER : It’s all right. Paula Newton in Ottawa. We are so grateful.
