Chuck Todd Panel Goes Comedy Gold After Andrea Mitchell Proclaims Journalists ‘Are Not Democrats’ – Opinion

We’ve written often at this site about Chuck Todd and about his colleague Andrea Mitchell a time or two as well, and it never fails to amaze me how both of them continue to believe that as long as they keep saying journalists aren’t liberally biased people will believe them.

In this writer’s view, the receipts are pretty substantial if not overwhelming that journalists do indeed harbor a left-wing bias. Almost all polls over the past decade regarding media contributions to politicians have shown that almost all of them are either Democrats or Democrat. That’s an objective fact, and one that is often reflected in the way stories are “reported,” as we’ve documented here extensively.

Ironically, we frequently see evidence of this very bias on Chuck Todd’s “Meet the Press” program, which was the scene of the latest hilarious round of “you can trust us, we’re not Democrats” from Mitchell and Todd on Sunday.

During a segment on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the entire panel, including the lone “Republican” (AEI’s Danielle Pletka) appeared to agree that former President Donald Trump and his former Sec. of State Mike Pompeo should not be “praising” Russian president Vladimir Putin (even though that’s not, in fact, what they are actually doing), especially at a time when Ukraine is under attack from Putin’s forces.

As Pletka began to express her opinion, she also said she believed Pompeo didn’t really mean what he said about Putin, which prompted chaos from the panelists, including Mitchell, Todd, NBC News reporter Kristen Welker and Jeremy Bash, who was at one point chief of staff at the CIA and then the DOD under former President Obama.

Pletka tried to get the mini mob to relax.

“Hang on. First of all, there are four of you and one of me,” she stated with her hands held up. “I’m the only Republican sitting here. Hang on a second.”

A fauxfended Mitchell responded indignantly by laughably proclaiming “We’re not Republicans or Democrats, we’re journalists.”

“Well, three of us are,” Todd quickly amended, otherwise in agreement with Mitchell.

Perhaps sensing she wouldn’t be able to get a word in edgewise if she responded differently, Pletka simply declared “I’m not going to touch that baby” before going on to give the rationale behind her earlier comments.

Watch:

As Fox News reported in 2018, Mitchell provided exceedingly fawning coverage of failed 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on a number of occasions because they’re close friends:

Mitchell is the wife of former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan. They are close friends and have often praised one another publicly. Mitchell said that Clinton “proved her commander in chief bona fides in terms of being tough as a gender issue” during the pregame show for an NBC News town hall event in 2016.

“I love you, Andrea. Your indefatigability is amazing. You’re my kind of woman,” Clinton said while pointing at Mitchell during a 2016 press conference on the campaign trail.

Mitchell has also complimented Clinton’s stamina, downplayed former interim Democratic National Committee chair and CNN political analyst Donna Brazile leaking town hall questions to the Clinton camp, proclaimed an investigation into Clinton’s private email server was “the worst possible situation” for America and appeared to have been fed a softball question by Clinton’s spokesperson.

Mitchell was asked about her Hillary bias in 2017, and though she admitted to being “too aggressive” in covering Clinton at times, she would not admit to any bias.

Todd is not only biased on the program but his wife, a Democratic campaign communication strategist, works in D.C. However, these individuals are not liberally biased. There is no need to be concerned.
