The partisan finger-pointing at home continues as Russia escalates its attack on Ukraine. Sunday, This WeekABC’s “PowerHouse Roundtable,” heated up when Chris Christie, former governor of New Jersey Republican was criticized for blaming President Joe Biden.
Anchor George Stephanopoulos began the firestorm asking Christie what Biden would have done to prevent Russian President Vladimir Putin invading Ukraine. Christie said that Russia would not have invaded Ukraine if Biden hadn’t “aggressively arm Ukraine” since his first day in office.
The ABC panel was clearly furious at Trump’s mention, as you could immediately hear them shouting at Christie. Jon Karl, Chief Washington correspondent immediately laughed off Christie’s suggestion that Trump had attacked Ukraine.
Christie firmly replied that the “Ukrainians were arm armed” under Trump, “and in January of 2021, Joe Biden stopped that policy” Christie added. A liberal panel was reminded that Biden reversed “internal oil production policies” in North Dakota and they had to reduce the amount of oil produced by half a trillion barrels per day because Biden didn’t allow us to take it from Federal lands. Russia imports half a million barrels per day. If we wanted to increase our oil production domestically, then we could not pay blood money to Russia.
Next former Democratic National Committee chairwoman Donna Brazile tried to challenge Christie, and it went just as poorly for her (click “expand”):
DONNA BRAZILE – I’m going to return to what you said. Donald Trump, serious, tried to play a card with Mr. Zelenskyy.
CHRISTIE : But they still had arms.
BRAZILE: He attempted to play a video game
CHRISTIE : But they still had arms.
BRAZILE – And was impeached because of it. So, it seems that this president has rallied the nation and rallied NATO. Goten the Germans — Look at all the countries coming to aid the Ukrainians.
CHRISTIE – You believe that it’s Joe Biden who did this?
[crosstalk]
BRAZILE – Yes, Joe Biden showed leadership.
[crosstalk]
CHRISTIE: No, Donna! That’s because Russian tanks moved into Ukraine. Joe Biden cannot be credited for all of this. And by the way, Joe Biden did one thing that Donald Trump didn’t do, he stopped arming Ukraine. And this was the same administration he was part of back with Obama that –
BRAZILE: O Lord!
CHRISTIE: They sent blankets to Crimea.
BRAZILE: Your platform has been changed for Ukraine.
Stephanopoulos also asked Christie if he would be willing to stop criticizing Biden over skyrocketing prices for gas. Christie didn’t answer the question but did tell Stephanopoulos what should be done for consumers to feel better at the pumps. “You have to ban Russian oil, and increase domestic production. Joe Biden will have a problem here. Because the environmental left holds him captive.”
Christie mentioned John Kerry, Biden’s climate-czar John Kerry’s remarks bemoaning war in Ukraine. This is not because people die but because “climate change” is getting worse. Stephanopoulos didn’t bat an eye. Instead, he brought up the UN’s report on climate change claiming it’s an “existential crisis and it’s getting worse.”
Realizing how out of touch those comments were, Christie tore into Stephanopoulos “and that’s what the tragedy is in Ukraine? People are being killed?”
Here are the media’s top priorities. Blaming Trump’s former president and obsessing about climate change.

Eastern at 9:42:45GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS : Do you think that there was anything else we could do, other than — imposing a zone of no-fly over Ukraine to stop Putin entering?
CHRIS CHRISTIE: Listen, I absolutely believe George, that if we had aggressively armed Ukraine from the time Joe Biden got into office if he continued the Trump policy and had continued to aggressively arm Ukraine –
JON KARL: Continued Trump policy? I mean Trump’s the one that
[crosstalk]
CHRISTIE: No, listen.
KARL – Trump is Zelenskyy’s browbeater and he has resisted the javelins Congress had approved to provide him with.

CHRISTIE. Jon, you could continue. And he still had the Ukrainian arm armed. Joe Biden ended that policy in January 2021. He reversed the domestic oil production policy in the exact same fashion. Only in North Dakota half a trillion barrels were reduced each day because Biden kept us from taking it off Federal lands. Russia is the largest importer of oil, with half a trillion barrels each day. If we increased our domestic oil production, we could cease paying Russia blood money for this war. But that goes against the President’s climate….

STEPHANOPOULOS – Will Republicans forget to criticize him for higher gas prices
CHRISTIE: It is impossible to do both at once. Both Russia must be banned and domestic oil production should increase. Joe Biden’s problem is here. Because of the environment left, he is held prisoner.

CHRISTIE. John Kerry said that Ukraine’s true tragedy was its inability to accelerate our climate change mitigation efforts. This is the conclusion of what far-left thinks about domestic oil production.
STEPHANOPOULOS – We have just seen the U.N. Report. This problem is an existential crisis and it’s getting worse.

CHRISTIE: And that’s what the tragedy is in Ukraine? Meanwhile, people are being killed? That’s what Kerry is talking about?
