Bilingual conservative publication El American was recently locked out of its Twitter account, and ordered to take down a series of tweets promoting a column that criticized former U.S. Representative Debbie Múcarsel-Powell for her comparison of the proposed Florida State Guard to Venezuela’s murderous colectivoGoon squad.
The censorious tendencies of Múcarsel-Powell, who after her defeat in the 2020 election is now dedicated to the disarming of Americans, are a matter of record. The author of this article will be recalling that she was the one who instigated attempts to tamper in the FCC licensing of an AM talk-radio station licensed by Miami’s Congressional Hispanic Caucus. But it appears that her inclusion in El American’s “Idiot of the Week” section last week was just a bridge too far. The funny part is that this isn’t even a new feature. The previous El American Idiots of the week include luminaries such as Bloomberg and Elizabeth Warren, but none of them attempted to remove El American from social media.
Below are screengrabs of Twitter’s lockout messages to El American, with directions to remove four specific tweets:Recent research has shown that the simple existence of Spanish-language media can trigger hyperventilation and excessive reaction in the left.
This case saw a legitimate critique of an ex-congressionwoman for her unconsidered comparisons of the Florida State Guard to El American, who El American can consider “idiotic” and it was enough to cause an overwhelming, disproportionate response. Twitter does not seem to care that conservatives often get called much worse than they are, which is something that should be noted.
These tweets did not gain any significant traffic or virality on their own, but they will probably do so after Twitter’s action at the request of an ex-congresswoman and her allies. They have decided which speech should be broadcast to the Hispanic population.
It will be evident in the record that social media harassment guidelines were used to silence legitimate criticism about policy differences. This is more consistent with Chavismo than setting up a volunteer state corps.
