A Cartersville, Georgia man has been jailed after authorities say he tried to meet an 8-year-old girl for sex.
Brian Travis Cowart, 34, is accused of attempting to arrange a meeting with a person he thought was the girl’s older sister, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported.
Cowart was actually speaking online to an undercover police officer posing as the girl.

“As a result of the online chat, Cowart offered a sum of money to perform sex acts on an 8-year-old girl,” a Paulding County spokesman told the AJC.
Authorities say Cowart planned to meet the girl’s sister at a local store, where the 8-year-old would be delivered to him.
Police arrested Cowart upon his arrival at the parking lot.
“As adults, it is our responsibility to keep children safe from online predators. I want to encourage all parents to keep an eye on your child’s online activities and know who they are communicating with at all times,” Sheriff Gary Gulledge said, according to WBIR.
