In giving his reinterpretation of the J-6 hearing, Stelter’s desperation displays the true goal.
A dawning awareness has started to take place in the media about the pretentious January 6 Committee hearing. It is something the press doesn’t want to openly admit. As each of the televised shows ends, there’s a fading interest and the truth that the show has little substance. All we have been shown is a repeat of prior findings, and edited-for-television clips defying trial standards for evidence, with claims being insisted but proof lacking.
Each performance has seen less media interest and those who remain true believers are becoming more vocal about their intentions. Brian Stelter is a strong supporter of this festival’s most passionate network. CNN was an allies of the J-6C right from the beginning and has always been the channel for leaks. This February, when deposed CEO Jeff Zucker was dispatched, CNN’s main connection to the Congressional group, Jamie Gangel, detailed how various members on the committee were dismayed.
“Gangel said she received calls from four members of the congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol ‘who felt devastated for our democracy’ now that Zucker has exited CNN.”
The network has remained on course, highlighting and amplifying the committee’s work, and now Brian Stelter is doing some overtime, trying to preserve their implied relevancy. Brian had been vocal in his condemnation of Fox News’ failure to participate with other networks prior to this primetime hearing. We saw that other outlets were departing from this commitment by Thursday. PBS stations opted not to show children programming on that day, but NBC blatantly skipped the US Open.
The silence was made even more stark by the fact Fox conducted the two previous hearings. There was no whining from Mr. Stelter.
Then yesterday, CNN’s media maven attempted some cleanup duty on behalf of the committee. Stelter began to use a lot of reframing in order to preserve the relevance of the hearings, as it became clearer that there was very little persuasive evidence.

The hearing is supposed to investigate the January 6 events and cause of the riot. Stelter is suggesting this is all possible secondary. “Perhaps it is the least significant aspect.,” he says incredibly. It is nothing but desperation. He suggests that this very important hearing’s charge is secondary. This is an indication of the failure to live up to the mission. He begins to list stories about recent New Mexico election results being challenged. These stories have nothing to do with an investigation of actions taken more than a year before.
The floating headlines displayed in his monologue are a telling example. Your Grandkids Will Care About the Jan. 6 Hearings Even if You Don’t. The tacit admission by Mr. Jones that the public is not overly interested in the proceedings explains a lot. The media has hyped the impact of the riot for over a decade. His networks have covered the committee with great affection. However, he is now facing an increasing tide of public apathy and must change the way he presents the issue to keep his face clean and justifiably justify all of the coverage.
With complete obliviousness, Stelter then quotes the newly installed New York Times executive editor, Joe Kahn, saying “You can’t have independent journalism in a non-free society.” The use of independentIt is quite amusing that CNN and Stelter have been willingly working for the Democrats and the committee, despite not having any perspective. Brian instead of looking back at the absence of impact and exploring the causes, opts to operate the spin-machine.
He is silent as networks leave the hearings. The mounting reality of few concrete findings is being refuted. This is no longer about discovering the truth but leveraging influence in the future. This exposes the intention of the committee right from the beginning. The investigation is not a Congressional one looking for evidence. It’s a partisan fisherman expedition with an eye towards the midterms, 2024 general elections and other upcoming events.
As people realize this, Stelter, the pitchman, is trying to create a new campaign as viewers drift from broadcasts. There now is a need to repackage what is being sold — because it is not being bought by the general public.
