‘Boom!’ CNN’s Avlon Excited By Unlikely Scenario That Could Kick Trump Off Ballot

You may not be aware, but “Democracy In Peril,” a channel on “Democracy In Peril”, is focusing heavily on removing insurrectionists from the ballot. It started with Rep. Madison Cawthorn, North Carolina and ended up with Donald Trump. .

It started with Neue Day Rolling a clip Yesterday’s speech by Mitch McConnell specifically described the January 6th events as “insurrection.”Avlon and John Berman then had a conversation about the 14th Amendment. This prohibits insurrectionists from holding office.

Berman originally described Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina as a “Georgia” congressman. What facts? Berman continued without acknowledging his error and described how North Carolina laws might prevent Cawthorn being on the ballot to insurrection.

Avlon said it was difficult to have Cawthorn taken off the ballot. But leftists continue to try (remember CNN just calling them “Activists”). Then he enthusiastically discussed how this could be used to prevent Trump 2024:

AVLON: It could also be applied to anyone else. It could be Donald Trump, evidently. It has been done in the past. The Civil War generation learned this lesson to prevent a similar insurrection from happening again.

This is why Trump cares. If Trump were to be impeached, it would be irrelevant. [because impeached presidents can’t run for future office.]Republicans were able to pull their punches just in time. Evidently, he was not convicted by the Senate.

But some Congressmen will inform you that it is because of the letters. Articles of impeachment mention specifically insurrection for Donald Trump. Because a majority of both chambers voted for it, regardless of the fact that they didn’t convict of it, this could be applied.Section 3. Boom!

Elie Honig from CNN was quick to dismiss Avlon and spare him any potentially distressing moments. Honig noted that although the 14th Amendment speaks of insurrectionists being disqualified from office, it lays out no procedure for that to happen.

Avlon’s anti-Trump dreams were sponsored in part by Fidelity, and GlaxoSmithKline, maker of Trelegy.

MITCH MCCONNELL:  Let me give you my view of what happened January the 6th. All of us were there. We all saw the events. It was a violent uprisingThis is to try to stop the peaceful transfer power from one administration to another after a legally-certified election. It is exactly that.

JOHNBERMAN: Lauren Fox, CNN’s congressional correspondent is here with us. Lauren: I noticed this last night. Mitch Mcconnell never says anything unintentionally. Every word is chosen carefully. This was done for a purpose.

. . .

It didn’t take him as much force to accomplish it. This is the legal language. Here we are. I’m going to turn it over to John Avlon—I’m one of his pet peeves here.

This is because it has to doThere is something happening in Georgia Right now. Madison Cawthorn was a Congressman. A lawsuit can be filed to keep him off the ballot. According to the suit, he participated in the insurrection which was in North Carolinalaw would be a disqualification Potentially, from the ballot

It’s going to be a great read. This is a very long preamble. It sets the stage for people to read it.

Nobody shall You can be elected as a Representative or Senator in Congress. You can hold an officeAny person, whether civil or military, who has taken an oath under the United States as a Member or an officer of The United States or as a member or any state legislature” so forth, “shall Insurrection.Rebellion against them, or assistance or comfort given to their enemies.”

John, now you are in my circle. Go!

JOHN ALON: Let’s look! The 14th Amendment (section 3) is the one that many people have warned could be applicable to insurrectionists. If any Members of Congress were discovered to have taken part, given aid, comfort, and/or provided assistance, they would be referred to them. Based on the information we have, that’s exactly what Madison Cawthorn is being asked. It was confirmed by the North Carolina board that they would be looking into it.

Madison Cawthorn will be the focus of my discussion. Let me be clear. If it turns out that some members of Congress worked with insurrectionists, that would be a direct concern.

It could also be applied to anyone else. It could be Donald Trump, evidently. It has been done in the past. The Civil War generation learned this lesson to prevent a similar insurrection from happening again.

This is why Trump cares. This would be moot if Trump had been impeached. [because impeached presidents can’t run for future office.]Republicans pulled their punches in a crucial moment. Evidently, he wasn’t convicted in Senate.

However, some members of Congress may tell you that the letters are, Articles of impeachment mention specifically insurrection for Donald Trump. Because a majority of both chambers voted for it, regardless of the fact that they didn’t convict of it, this could be applied.Section 3. Boom!
