Although the proposal states that individuals and groups cannot be detained for longer than 60 days each, court orders can be made to suspend this maximum time. A court can allow the department to give the court an additional 90-day period for consideration of detention. The cycle could last indefinitely if it is approved by the department.
According to The National Pulse, the New York General Assembly is expected to vote on the bill during the session that begins January 5, 2022.
