Biden Backs off a Bit on Vaccine Mandates – Opinion

Joe Biden stated on September 9, that he will push vaccine mandates for federal employees and contractors. Next, he’ll impose OSHA regulations on private firms with over 100 employees.

Federal contractor deadline was set for December 8. This has prompted massive protests by federal contractor employees.

But now, in the wake of the red wave in the elections — notice the timing — Biden has suddenly decided that doesn’t need to happen as urgently as he claimed.

The administration released two new rules on Thursday that will be enforced starting Jan. 4 — one setting up new vaccination-or-test requirements for businesses with more than 100 workers and another implementing a vaccine mandate for health care workers at facilities participating in Medicare and Medicaid. These rules together are likely to impact more than 1 million people.

Officials said that officials are pushing back Dec. 8 deadline to federal contractors for workers who need to be fully vaccinated. The delay will mean all three mandates will take effect January 4.

The rules allow workers in private companies with over 100 employees to choose to wear a mask to work or submit to Covid-19 testing weekly. This option is unavailable to health workers or government contractors.

I had written earlier that the elections were a signal to Nancy Pelosi, D-Ca, House Speaker. It was a clear sign her Build Back Better agenda is dead. These elections also seem to have been an indication to Biden to slow down a bit.

Obviously, he still intends to put the mandates into effect, so I’m not sure how much he thinks this buys him. It surely wouldn’t stop the anger against him, the protests, or the “Let’s go, Brandon” chants. When you’re having a viral movement against your actions, you may just want to consider what the heck you’re doing.

At this point, the Democrats have to be spooked by all the anger they’ve caused and how they seemed to lose in a wave this week. Does he really think about this? Most likely not. If he did, he’d be pulling all the mandates. But he does know he’s in trouble.
