The Disinformation Governance Board (DGB) may be paused, but senators on Monday demanded the Biden administration release documents and communications from the entity many have nicknamed the “Ministry of Truth.”
The people responsible for the dystopian government department are now in hot water thanks to inquisitive senators. “We write to request immediate access to all records and communications related to the Department of Homeland Security’s new Disinformation Governance Board,” the May 23 letter from senators to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said. “We are therefore demanding transparency into the Department’s decision-making process so that we can learn why the Department ever thought creating a disinformation board would be a good idea.”
The letter cited Mayorkas’s own testimony, scorching him for appointing the now-resigned disinformation czar Nina Jankowicz: “On May 4, 2022, you testified before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee about the creation of this new board and accepted sole responsibility for appointing Nina Jankowicz as its Executive Director. Surprisingly, you testified that you were not aware of her long history of partisan public statements.”
DHS must then turn over all DGB records, which included:
“a. Written or recorded communications regarding the creation of the Board
“b. the agenda or minutes from any meeting at which the Board’s formation was discussed;
“c. Any legal review would be done to see if the Board’s activities are being investigated.
Authorized by the Constitution of the United States
“d. all communications and records that may be used to identify the people who will be recruited for the Board.
“e. Communications concerning the appointment or removal of an executive director to the Board
“f. any communications with the White House about the formation of the Board or appointment of officials to serve on the Board.”
These senators were some of most notable figures in the continuing fight for free speech. Republican Senators. All the signatories of this letter were Josh Hawley in MO, Rick Scott in FL, Rand Paul in KY and Ron Johnson respectively (WI), James Lankford (OK), and Rick Scott both from Florida.
The Biden DHS released a Terrorism Advisory Bulletin in February claiming that “The United States remains in a heightened threat environment” due to “false or misleading narratives and conspiracy theories.” DHS also warned against “misleading narratives” that can “undermine public trust in U.S. government institutions.”
