Tesla CEO Elon Musk is reportedly planning to counter-sue Twitter in an ongoing legal battle over the billionaire’s halted purchase of the social media company.
MuskAfter claiming that Twitter did not give enough information about the number of its bot accounts, Musk attempted to stop him from purchasing Twitter. Musk was then sued by Twitter. The New York PostMusk claimed that an insider had informed him of his intention to respond.
Twitter accused Musk of trying to “trash the company, disrupt its operations, destroy stockholder value, and walk away” after agreeing to purchase the platform, New York Post wrote.
Musk’s lawyers aim to push Delaware Court of Chancery judge Kathaleen McCormick to give them more time and “power” to gather the information on Twitter’s bots, the Post wrote. The outlet speculated that a “protracted legal battle” could cause Twitter stock to drop and allow Musk to buy the platform at a lower price than his initial offer of $44 billion.
Musk’s original Twitter lawsuit will be heard at the first hearing on July 19. Post reported. Twitter was reported to be pushing for Musk’s case to start in September. Musk, however, prefers to have it go to trial no later than February 2023.
Twitter would like Musk to acquire the platform on the terms originally agreed upon. Musk, however, insists that it cannot be done because Twitter did not provide the required information.
