Chicago Bears is one of the oldest NFL teams, and has now moved to Soldier Field. Soldier Field has been home to the Bears for more than 50 years. However, that will all change with the start of the NFL’s season. Although the Bears had been offered a deal to move to Downtown Chicago, they declined the invitation to continue living in this crime-ridden area.
In the fall, Bears ownership – Virginia Halas McCaskey, Andrew McKenna Sr., and Patrick Ryan – reached an agreement on a 326-acre site in Arlington Heights. Arlington Park is where the stadium will be built. This is an area that’s safer than the Chicago suburbs.
Ted Phillips of the Bears stated this when the team made a bid for the land.
“We recently submitted a bid to purchase Arlington International Racecourse property. It’s our obligation to explore every possible option to ensure we’re doing what’s best for our organization and its future. If selected, this step allows us to further evaluate the property and its potential.”
Lori Lightfoot of Chicago proposed adding the dome to the stadium. It would allow for a greater seating capacity of 61,500 to 70,000. The cost estimate ranges from $900million to $2.2billion. Lightfoot explained to Chicago Sun-Times before purchasing the new land:
“We need to invest in Soldier Field … Soldier Field must be a year-round destination. The fan experience must be improved. And that’s precisely what we aim to do. The Bears should stay in Chicago, and we are making compelling arguments for them to do so. They want a Tier One stadium to maximize revenues and we agree.”
It’s too little, too late as crime remains rampant in Chicago. Everyone who is paying attention should be aware of the shootings in Chicago every weekend. Therefore, the Bears’ decision to move out of Downtown Chicago shouldn’t come as a surprise.
According to The Bears, the following statement was issued:
“The only potential project the Chicago Bears are exploring for a new stadium development is Arlington Park … As part of our mutual agreement with the seller of the property, we are not pursuing alternative stadium deals or sites, including renovations to Soldier Field, while under contract.”
Kim Foxx Chicago District Attorney, is responsible for Chicago’s recent crime wave. This has been a problem for Chicagoans for many years. As RedState’s Bob Hoge reported, veteran prosecutor Jim Murphy resigned from the Cook County State Attorney’s office and called out Foxx in his resignation letter, stating:
“I cannot continue to work for an Administration I no longer respect.”
“I would love to continue to fight for the victims of crime and to continue to stand with each of you, especially in the face of the overwhelming crime that is crippling our communities.”
“I wish I could stay. But, this Administration is not for me. I have zero confidence in leadership.”
Chicagoans are feeling the same, with thousands of Chicagoans feeling the exact same thing. Chicago Bears took action and left Soldier Field. They were tired of the inaction of the Mayor and DAs regarding crime.
