Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, the one-time “hero” during the COVID-19 pandemic, now embattled Governor, was subject to a state sexual harassment probe due to 11 women coming forward and alleging Cuomo of harassment. Cuomo was forced to resign in August 2021 after an investigation report by Letitia James, New York Attorney General.
Now, according to an excerpt of a book called “Any Given Tuesday,” by Democratic strategist Lis Smith, Cuomo received advice from former President Bill Clinton about the multiple charges of sexual misconduct, as he fought to remain Governor. Cuomoo suggested to Clinton that he hold a news conference for New York City residents.
According to Smith, following the release of James’ report, Cuomo’s advisers reportedly told him his career was “over.”
Smith writes that Clinton was the only advisor Cuomo received sympathy from. Cuomo should speak with his constituents, according to the ex-president. But advisors dismissed Clinton’s idea, stating if Cuomo held a press conference, it would hurt rather than help him.
Bill Clinton was accused of several sexual assaults while he was president. He was impeached in the House of Representatives after an affair with Monica Lewinsky, White House intern. Therefore, it is understandable that Clinton provided advice to Cuomo. As the saying goes, “It takes one to know one.”
Cuomo was accused of many inappropriate behaviors, including forced kissing and unwanted sexual advances. He also suggested that he wanted to have sexual relations with young staff members. Andrew Cuomo believed that he was above all else and could do what he desired, due to New York’s Cuomo dynasty. Cuomo was confronted by the realities of lawlessness, thanks to Letitia James, who revealed the Cuomo Report.
Although Cuomo claimed to be “deeply” sorry for any of the inappropriate behavior, he denied the allegations listed in James’ report. He blamed state investigators as being biased.
While Clinton would love to support Cuomo’s cause, his advisors realized that there was no way for him to do so. Knowing the power and influence that Cuomo had, it was courageous of those women to speak up. If it weren’t for them coming forward, and James releasing the report, Cuomo might still be the Governor of New York.
