Andrea Mitchell Pushes Abortion Legalization, Ignores March for Life

Andrea Mitchell used her MSNBC show, the eponymous MSNBC Show to promote abortion. She gave Cecile Richards (ex-PLANNed Parenthood President) a platform to ask for legalization of abortion in all 50 states.

Mitchell opened the segment with a concern that the Supreme Court would “deliver another major blow” to abortion rights by challenging Texas’ abortion ban. Mitchell claimed that it was a “setback” for the “landmark”. Roe V. Wade decision.

Mitchell introduced Mitchell while flanching images of prolife signs that liberal counter-protesters held, but she did not mention the pro-life March for Life which was held on the same day.

Mitchell brought up the possibility that Congress, or the state legislatures could make abortion legal. Richards was a regular guest on the liberal network’s news channel.

Do you think that this will create pressure for the Mississippi case to be decided in favor of those who support freedom of choice? Is that a call for congressional action? Should states be able to act on their own, given current trends in Congress?

Richards supported the call for pro-abortion legislation, claimed that women’s lives would be endangered if they couldn’t get abortions, and targeted the Republican party in particular.

It’s not under threat by a rogue group or right-wing extremists. The Republican party is firmly rooted in the fact that they have made it their mission for the Republican Party to take away the freedom to decide about your baby and place it in the hands government and politicians. This is what we are facing. Many people worry about the Supreme Court’s decision and are also trying to double their efforts in preparation for November’s crucial elections.

Instead of pushing back on the partisan attack against Republicans, or any of her guest’s pushing for the killing of unborn babies, Mitchell followed up by inviting her guest to complain that Democratic voters do not place enough priority on protecting abortion: “Are you surprised that it has not been a base issue for those who are advocating for choice?”

ANDREA MITCHELL: The Supreme Court delivering another major blow to abortion rights after a majority of the justices, in effect, continued a Texas ban on abortions after six weeks for months more by refusing to let the original trial judge hear the challenger’s appeal for immediate relief. A further setback in the historic decision Roe V. WadeTomorrow marks the 49th anniversary of ruling. This could be Roe‘s last anniversary as we await the Supreme Court’s Mississippi case that could lead to the end of legal abortions as we know them?

Cecile Richards is joining us as co-chair of American Bridge 21st Century. Cecile was also previously president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Cecile, it’s a pleasure to have you as a friend. Fast five decades are approaching. Roe V. WadeTomorrow is tomorrow but abortion access’ future rests in the Supreme Court. Which are the most recent Texas decisions regarding the procedural aspects of a stay essentially on Texas’ ban to compare with the 6-3 ones?

(CECILE RICHARDS, FORMER PLANNED PARENTHOOD PRESIDENT)

Do you think that this will create pressure for the Mississippi case to be decided in favor of those who support freedom of choice? Is that a call for congressional action? Should states be able to act on their own, given current trends in Congress?

CECILE ROCHARDS, FORMER PLANNED PARENTHOOD PRESENDER: Yes Andrea. And we are seeing this in states that have begun to codify RoeIn state legislation, because of course, it is if RoeThis court, Trump-dominant, will overturn it. It will make the issue a state-by state matter. Unfortunately, this will also mean that women in certain states have different rights than those in other states. As we all know, abortion will be illegalized. This means that people of low income, young women and those who aren’t able to leave their job to move to another state won’t have the option to leave their children behind while they travel or take time off from work.

This is the true fear. We’re already seeing it in Texas. Andrea, I believe the most remarkable thing is this: The rogue decision has radically altered opportunities for Americans, especially women, who can finish high school and get into the workforce, earn master’s degrees, start families. It is all at risk.

It’s not under threat by a rogue group or right-wing extremists. The Republican party is firmly rooted in the fact that they have made it their mission for the Republican Party to take away the freedom to decide about your baby and place it in the hands government and politicians. This is what we are facing. Many people worry about the Supreme Court’s decision and are also trying to double their efforts in preparation for November elections, which will be crucial.

MITCHELL Aren’t you amazed that this has not been a major issue for advocates for choice?

ROBERTS: I believe it hasn’t been an issue in certain ways because it’s a constitutional rights and it’s been for fifty years. What is actually happening is that people from all walks are realizing, thanks to the Republican Party’s actions, that this will be a political fight that every citizen must be involved in. To answer your question regarding what Congress can do, I think it’s crucial to mention that the House of Representatives has recently approved the Women’s Health Protection Act. This would ensure legal access to abortion. However, I should point out that it passed without one Republican vote. It was passed by one Republican vote. We need to address this issue with the Republican party. The Republican party has millions of members who support abortion rights.

MITCHELL – Cecile Richards: We’ll leave it at that, but we thank you so much. Thank you for being here again.
