Maintaining his status as America’s governor, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has gotten to a point where unnecessary COVID precautions aren’t getting any more passes. It’s not hard to blame him. He’s been on the forefront of leading against them, which has brought untold hatred down upon him, which he’s expertly slapped down and fought back again.
He is likely to get his blood boiling just by seeing the children with them.
WFLA TV released a video showing DeSantis giving a speech about funding for cybersecurity education. A few students stood behind DeSantis’ podium, each wearing masks.
It was a scene that clearly annoyed DeSantis and he told the students they should remove the masks as they’re effectively useless and the “COVID theater” needs to stop.
“You do not have to wear those masks,” DeSantis said. “I mean, please take them off. Honestly, it’s not doing anything and we’ve gotta stop with this COVID theater. So if you want to wear it, fine, but this is ridiculous.”

You don’t have to wear these masks. You can take them off. You’re not accomplishing anything. This Covid theatre has to stop. It’s fine to wear, but it is absurd.”https://t.co/7j1Pb2hV53 @WFLA pic.twitter.com/ZIOyTHLOh3

During a rant about the left’s attempts to cancel Joe Rogan in early February, DeSantis made his opinions on masks very blunt:
It is clear to see that masked jurisdictions are no more successful than unmasked ones. All the things they’ve said. The narratives collapse after six months to 12 months. Then they can’t admit their mistakes. They will not go back and make amends. It’ll just move on to the next thing and craft the next narrative.”

DeSantis has the right idea. Even leftists now admit that masks can only be used to cover the face and do not protect against a serious virus. Students being forced to wear masks are a contentious matter across the country, and DeSantis’s willingness to stand up for children will make him more popular than anyone on the left.
It’s highly unlikely that his annoyance was with the students themselves, but more so with the fact that they were likely told they need to wear masks and felt coerced to do so by someone else. The overall culture kids are forced into where they’re told masking up is required by both the rules and in order to be considered a good person is enough to get annoyed over.
