On Monday, NBC’s TodayThis morning’s network show broadcast the news that Jussie, actor Jussie Mollett, was currently facing a fresh trial for lying to investigators regarding his 2019 hoax of Trump supporters.
After giving the actor air time to spread lies about the supposed attack on Good Morning America ABC has passed the latest developments in 2019 CBS Mornings It was not even mentioned that the actor would be going back to trial after the original 16 charges against his were controversially dropped initially by George Soros-supported prosecution.
NBC’s Megan Fitzgerald updated audiences on the major new development in the three-year-old story that captivated the media at the time:
“This long delayed trial marks the latest chapter in this strange saga. The first Empire star claiming he was the victim of a racist attack in downtown Chicago but as his story came under scrutiny, it started to fall apart,” Fitzgerald stated.
Smollett’s fake story wasn’t believable to any reasonable person from the beginning, but the media still ran with it because it fit their narrative.
After playing a clip of Smollett celebrating after the “controversial decision” by the prosecutor to drop all charges in favor of community service, the reporter noted that decision was later overruled in 2020:
This agreement was later overturned by a special prosecutor who reinvestigated and discovered abuse of discretion as well as operational failings by Cook County’s state attorney. Smollett was charged with six counts of disorderly behavior, lying to police by the grand jury.
The NBC reporter wasn’t shy in calling the case “bizarre” and “strange.” Of course it was. But at the time, the media bought Smollett’s story of being brutally attacked by Trump-supporting racists in downtown Chicago, hook line and sinker. Before the story was exposed, Smollett’s story was hyped by morning and evening news broadcasts for 157 minutes.
It’s understandable that ABC’s Good Morning AmericaI would like to pass the update. Robin Roberts was embarrassed by her softball interview and refused to give any judgment or examination of the actor. He was flattered by her questions, which suggested that everyone should believe his story.
What do you tell a young homosexual man?
If the attackers don’t get found, then how can you heal?
Have you been threatened in the past?
As Smollett’s case unraveled, Roberts tried to save face after her shamefully soft interview just a few weeks later on GMA saying, “[T]here were a lot of red flags that a lot of people saw.”
CBS did not share information about the liberal actor now facing repercussions. However, CBS did spend significantly more time hyping it than ABC and NBC.
Instead of reporting on Smollett’s trial, ABC ironically did a report on a “true story of domestic terrorism” about white supremacists in Kansas. It would be interesting to compare that true story to Smollett’s fake.
CBS, meanwhile, was fascinated with entertainment stories but not an actor going to trial. They spent significant time on Kevin Hart’s new movie, Tony Bennett’s final concert, and the history of hip hop music instead.

HODA KOTB – Nearly three decades after Jussie, actor of the film Jussie Smollett claimed he had been the victim of a hate attack, he is now being tried for allegedly staging it all. Smollett pleaded not guilty. NBC’s Megan Fitzgerald is in Chicago with the latest. Megan, good morning.
MEGAN FIZGERALD: Hello. The latest chapter of this bizarre saga is the long-awaited trial. The “previous”EmpireHe claimed that he had been the victim of an attack by racists in Chicago, but his story began to crumble as it was scrutinized. Jussie Mollett, actor, celebrates after the shocking decision by prosecutors to drop his criminal charges and instead order him to do community service.
JUSSIESMOLLETT – I have always been consistent and truthful on all levels since the beginning.
FITZGERALD Smollett was indicted by a grand jury on six counts of disorderly conduct and lying to police. Smollett claimed that he was returning from Subway at 2:00 AM when two men assaulted him, yelling homophobic and racist slurs. They also put bleach on his neck and tied a noose around it.
Police have concluded that Smollett was attacked by two Nigerian brothers who Smollett had paid $3500 for to carry out the attack. They spent hundreds of hours investigating the matter. They have apologized for their role in the scheme and will be testifying for the prosecution. The Osundairo brothers have not been accused of a crime. Over the summer, Smollett’s attorney accused the special prosecutor of political motives, writing in a statement, ‘Mr. Smollett is innocent of these charges and now we are focused on moving forward to trial.’
NBC News is now being told by legal experts that Smollett will face a maximum three-year sentence if convicted. But, because he has a clean criminal record, it’s likely that he will receive probation. The court will begin at 9:00 a.m. here. This will likely last approximately two weeks. Cameras are not permitted in courtrooms.
