ABC Repeats Biden Admin Talking Points on Oil Drilling

Even on Easter Sunday, ABC’s Good Morning America can’t quit regurgitating the Biden administration’s talking points. The liberal anchors were at the forefront of this debate, days after President Biden changed course and allowed oil and gas drilling to be conducted on public land. Good Morning AmericaAttempt to minimize the impact of this decision.

Janai Norman, a sympathetic Janai, noted the rising costs of fuel. putting President Biden in a tough political spot.” White House correspondent MaryAlice Parks in her report, noted how the Biden administration’s decision to “restart the sale of onshore leases for oil and gas drilling on federal lands”This was “upsetting environmental activists in the President’s Democratic base.”

Attempting to make excuses for reversing a decision he probably shouldn’t have made in the first place, Parks let viewers know that the “White House [is] saying their hands were tied.”

Despite mentioning this earlier in her report, Parks wanted to let her audience know that environmentalists are furious with the Biden administration reneging on their pledge to “curb greenhouse emissions”, noting how “environmentalists are fuming.”

Ending her report, Parks repeated the old White House line that approving more oil and gas drilling won’t do much because oil companies already have unused permits. “One major point of frustration for this White House and Democratic lawmakers is the fact that oil and gas companies already hold and lease hundreds of thousands of acres that they do not currently use.”

She then downplayed the effect Biden’s new decision will have, noting “it’s unclear at what point, if ever, these new leases will equate to more production.”

JANAI NORMAN – Rising fuel prices put President Biden in a difficult political position. He plans to resume drilling public land and flip a 2020 campaign promise. Climate activists are also angry. ABC’s Maryalice Parcs has more.

MARYALICE PARKS. The Biden administration has announced that it will resume the sale of leases onshore for oil and natural gas drilling on federal land. In these nine states, 144,000 acres will be available to lease. Environmental activists within the Democratic base of President Trump were upset by this decision. It is an obvious departure from the campaign promise for 2020.

JOE BIDEN – And, by the way: No more drilling on federal lands. Period, period.

PARKS: The White House said that their hands were tied. After he was elected, President Obama signed an order that halted the sales of leases. Louisiana’s federal judge ruled that they should proceed. The announcement comes at a time when gas prices have soared. White House under political pressure to increase domestic production. Environmentalists continue to be furious at his promises to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

NICOLE GHIO (SENIOR FOOSSIL FUELS PROGRAM MANGER, FRIENDS ON THE EARTH), Biden can’t fulfill his campaign climate pledges as well as international commitments unless he tackles leasing on public lands. This is the first step.

PARKS. The Department of Interior insisted that they had worked hard to make sure the needle was threaded correctly, increasing the royalties of the plots nearly by 50 percent. The inclusion of only a tiny fraction of land-oil and gas industry executives was what they had hoped for.

FRANK MACCHIAROLA: There are mixed signals coming from the administration about leasing. Although this is an important first step, they still need to take further steps.

PARKS: This is a major frustration for the White House and Democratic legislators. Oil and gas companies have hundreds of thousands acres they lease and hold that they don’t currently use. Are not in the process of developing. These new leases are not expected to result in more production. These new leases will be available for sale tomorrow. Whit?
