If you turned on ABC’s Good Morning AmericaYou might have thought, on Tuesday night, that the ABC network had finally found the shocking accusation that Hillary Clinton campaign spied upon Trump’s 2016 campaign and later the White House. After all, the ABC graphic alerted, “Trump Investigation Bombshell.” But you’d be wrong. The rest of the graphic is this: “Accounting Firm Says Financial Statements Are Not Reliable.”
ABC and CBS, along with NBC and NBC continued their silence on Tuesday. This was in addition to the silence observed by NBC and CBS over the weekend as outlets such as The Washington Times The Washington ExaminerJohn Durham was the Special Counsel who reported on the creation of the Clinton spying case.
That bombshell should be replaced with this. GMA co-host George Stephanopoulos covered something completely different: “Now to a major development in the investigation of President Trump’s business for possible fraud. The Trump organization’s longtime accounting firm cut ties with the company, declaring key financial documents are not reliable.”
GMA devoted 1 minute and 54 seconds to this story, which is 1 minute and 54 more than they’ve given to the new Durham claims. Over on NBC’s TodaySavannah Guthrie gave 34 seconds to the Accounting Firm story.
She explained: “Donald Trump’s long time accounting firm is cutting ties with the Trump organization. Mazars USA is saying that the financial statements they prepared for almost a decade can no longer be reviewed as reliable.” CBS MorningsNothing on Durham or the accounting firm.
While NBC can’t be bothered (so far) to cover the story on the air, the network did online:
Hyundai was sponsoring the ABC continuing cover-up. Progressive insurance was the sponsor on CBS. On NBC it was called Sleep Number beds. To let them know your thoughts, click the links.

7.10 am ETABC GRAPHIC – Trump Investigation: Accounting Firm Claims Financial Statements are Not Reliable
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS – This is a significant development in the probe into President Trump’s business and possible fraud. Trump Organization’s former accounting firm severed all ties with it, declaring the financial records are no longer reliable. Jon Karl, the chief Washington correspondent, has all of this. Good morning Jon.
JONKARL: Hello George. The move may have major implications on multiple investigations of Trump’s business practices. The Trump long-standing accounting firm has stated that it cannot stand by financial statements they prepared over the last decade for Trump’s organization. Trump faces criminal and civil investigation into the accounting company that represented him. Trump used to call his accountants the best.
DONALD TRUMP – I pay millions every year to have my taxes done by accountants and lawyers.
KARL: In a letter filed in court by the New York Attorney General, Mazars USA said a decade of statements compiled with information provided by the Trump organization, quote, “should no longer be relied upon.” Trump used those to secure loans and to sell his business success as he ran for president.
TRUMP: I was an entrepreneur. I was very successful. It was a great success.
NEW YORK – Letitia James, the New York Attorney General is seeking to have Trump and his oldest children testify before her in an investigation to determine if he has illegally increased his assets’ value and avoided paying taxes. Trump’s family denies that the probe is politically motivated.
ERIC TRUMP: Every day, New York’s prosecutors pursue us on political witch-hunts in an effort to uncover as much information possible.
KARL In the meantime, an appeal will be heard by a judge in state about whether Trump can or should be made to testify. George?
