ABC Fawns for Stacey Abrams New Kid’s Book, Pitch Race for GA Governorship

In a nauseatingly gooey Tuesday interview with election conspiracy theorist and Democratic candidate for Georgia governor Stacey Abrams, the co-hosts of ABC’s Good Morning America heaped praise on the previously failed gubernatorial candidate for announcing her second go at the position, her work as a “major voting rights advocate,” and her eponymous new children’s book Stacey’s Extraordinary Words.

The segment was teased as a discussion of the book but co-host Janai Norman had other intentions as she kicked things off with Abrams’ political ambitions.

“Good morning to you, Ms. Stacey Abrams! This is such an honor to have you join us! So excited to talk about this book,” she said while introducing their guest. “Your other big news you made earlier this month. In 2022, you will run for Georgia governor again. This comes after a narrow loss of three years earlier. What will be different for you this time around?”

That “narrow loss” Norman was talking about was almost 55,000 votes.

After Abrams touted how her efforts “have hundreds of thousands of new voters who are on the rolls,” senior White House correspondent Mary Bruce kept the ball rolling on the politics front by gushing about her work as a “major voting rights advocate;” and asked her to comment on all “new laws restricting voting, not just in Georgia but across the country.”

Georgia and several other states had actually been adjusting the measures in response to the pandemic. They were not violating any rights.

And despite the glaring warning sign that was the failure of Build Back Better, Abrams threw red meat to the liberal base by insisting “the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act” were going to pass the Senate.

Whit Johnson was the cohost and brought Abrams back to the table by selling some of her more political books. (Complete with an onscreen graphic)

“So, let’s transition away from politics for a bit here and talk about your book. You’re no stranger to the best-seller’s list, you’ve got favorites like Justice is at Rest The Time is NowHowever, Stacey’s Extraordinary Words this is your first children’s and picture book,” he touted. “Why did you decide to write this?”

Bruce and Norman followed up with questions about Abrams’ history in spelling bees and how powerful the word “perseverance” is (Click “expand”):

BRUCE – As a child you competed in spelling bees and had recently the opportunity to meet the 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee winner, an African American who is, obviously, the first to achieve this feat. What inspires and motivates you when you consider the next generation of spelling bee winners?

(…)

NORMAN : I just spoke perseverance. On the title page here it says, “Stacey learns that win or lose her words are powerful and sometimes perseverance is the most important word of all.” Why do you think perseverance is so important and what do you hope the young people take away from this book after reading it?

Norman wrapped up the segment by announcing her admiration for the book, declaring: “Love that. I love the book’s cover. Cannot wait to take this one home to my little ones.”

Those glowing appreciation for Abrams’ political career book was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships GEICO and Nissan. You can find their contact information linked to let you know about biased news that they are funding.

ABC’s Good Morning America
December 28, 2021
Eastern 8:20 a.m.

JANAI NORMAN – We now have a national leader in voting rights advocacy, the former Georgia House Minority Leader and number one The New York Times best-selling author, Stacey Abrams. With her first children’s novel, she is on the move. Stacey’s Extraordinary Words.

We are so glad to have you here, Ms. Stacey Abrams. It is a pleasure to welcome you! We are so excited to discuss this book. This is your debut book for children, but let’s not forget the rest of the news. What was your other important news this month? In 2022, you will run for Georgia governor again. After the narrow defeat three years prior, this is your second run for governor. Is it possible to make a difference this time?

STACEY ABS: I am very happy that we now have thousands upon thousands of voters, including an increase in young voters. Our campaign has been focused on encouraging new voices to participate in the process, and reminding voters that they can shape the future.

This is an opportunity to hear new voices, and to have people who care about their family and want better outcomes for them and their families come to the table.

MARY BRUCE – You’re a longstanding advocate for voting rights, but there are many new restrictions to voting in Georgia and across the nation. What are your plans to address this problem and carry on the fight against it in 2022

ABRAMS – I am excited to announce that the Freedom to Vote Act will be reintroduced to the U.S. Senate in January. These laws will ensure that voting rights are protected across the nation. The issue isn’t about party affiliation, it’s about patriotism. My issue isn’t who gets to vote, it’s that everyone who is eligible is allowed to vote.

While my role as a candidate is to persuade them to vote for me in the election, my duty as an American is ensure that every eligible voter can cast a ballot freely and without any impediments.

WHIT JOHNSON: So, let’s transition away from politics for a bit here and talk about your book. You’re no stranger to the best-seller’s list, you’ve got favorites like Justice is at Rest The Time is NowHowever, Stacey’s Extraordinary WordsThis is your first picture and children’s book. What inspired you to create this picture book?

ABRAMS: I love children’s books. Growing up, I had a mother librarian who was an expert in children’s literature. We were given all the wonderful books by her but we also got to explore them. My dad is an extraordinary storyteller. I have been fortunate to grow up with him and understand how stories can change lives. Talking to young people has been one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had as an author.

BRUCE: As a child, you participated in many spelling bees. Recently, I had the opportunity to speak with the recipient of the Scripps National Spelling Bee 2021 Scripps, who was, naturally, the first African American ever to win this competition. What inspires and motivates you when you consider the next generation of spelling bee winners?

ABRAMS – Zalia is incredible and she out-spoke me in our interview.

[Laughter from ABC co-hosts]

This was an extremely humbling and learning experience. It’s clear that she is not only charming, but also thoughtful and perseveres. That’s why I believe spelling bees and life should be understood by young people. They are an opportunity to challenge yourself not just against the children around you, but also against your own abilities. That’s what I want young people to understand. Stacey’s Extraordinary WordsStacey does not get the meaning of her words. It’s an important lesson to learn.

Zalia’s perseverance to be a strong basketball player, speller, and all that she has done, is a great role model.

NORMAN. And, you said “Persevere.” On the title page here it says, “Stacey learns that win or lose her words are powerful and sometimes perseverance is the most important word of all.” Why do you think perseverance is so important and what do you hope the young people take away from this book after reading it?

ABRAMS: What is most significant to me about this story? How Stacey used her words to consider how she could impact her local community. Who she could help, what she can do for her family, as well as how she would like her life to look. The important thing is not to focus on the huge victories every time, but rather those little lessons we have that build up over time. You will find that life changes around you, making you more resilient and able to make better decisions. These challenges can be challenging, but they can also make you a better person.

NORMAN – I love this. I love the book’s cover. This book is so beautiful! Stacey’s Extraordinary WordsIt’s out today. Stacey Abrams, thank you so much for being with us.

ABRAMS – Thank you so much for being with me.
