FLASHBACK: CNN Loved Durham Investigations When They Involved Bush

With the liberal media either downplaying the bombshell revelations from Special Counsel John Durham’s investigation into the Russia collusion hoax, raging at them, or just plain ignoring them, it’s worth looking back at how they used to celebrate his investigations. Because back in 2008, they had high hopes for his investigation into then-President George W. Bush’s CIA after interrogation tapes were destroyed.

A visit to The Situation Room on January 2, 2008, former CNN host Jack Cafferty wasn’t sure that Durham would get to the bottom of what happened to the tapes. Jeffrey Toobin, then-senior lawyer analyst and Zoom masturbator, stepped in to defend Durham.

CAFFERTY – How can you tell if they are going to answer your questions?

TOOBIN: He is indeed a responsible prosecutor. His record is outstanding. He is not political accountable…

CAFFERTY – Is he just like all the other prosecutors, who got fired…

TOOBIN – But Patrick…

CAFFERTY: A few months back.

“Well, but Pat Fitzgerald went ahead with his investigation and prosecuted one of the top aides to the president of the United States. You get what I’m referring to. He can’t be accused of being independant.,” Toobin added.

Cafferty was keen to see Durham take his inquiry to the Bush White House, and was concerned that the President might hide behind executive privilege. Gloria Borger, Gloria Borger’s then-senior analyst and now-chief political analyst was also encouraged to do so. Durham was “going to answer your questions.”

Wolf Blitzer, the host of Wolf Blitzer, asked Toobin to clarify if Durham would be facing obstruction charges. “Obstructing justice is a federal offense. This clearly is the plan of Paul [sic]Durham, the Connecticut attorney who is running it, to determine whether — particularly the CIA people who did not acknowledge the existence of these tapes in these investigations and then destroyed them — whether that was a crime,” he said.

Toobin was available at an earlier time The Situation RoomAccording to CNN’s transcript, he loved Durham.

This is a huge deal because it can take a lot of time, especially when one prosecutor is assigned to one case. You can read more about it here. John Durham is an outstanding prosecutor. Janet Reno appointed Reno to investigate an extremely controversial Boston case involving FBI ties and the mob. His qualifications are unquestionable, so I’m not sure anyone is going to question them.

And in the news report about Durham’s appointment, then-CNN reporter Ed Henry announced that then-Attorney General Michael Mukasey chose “a no-nonsense prosecutor” who “sent several Connecticut state officials to jail in a mob informant case.”

Let’s see how they describe Durham as he puts the screws to the Clinton campaign and their lackeys.

JACK CAFFERTY – I’d like to know what the White House thought about it. Harriet Miers said “don’t do anything to the tapes,” a federal judge said, “don’t do anything to the tapes.” Tom Kean and Lee Hamilton said, “even if we didn’t ask you for the information about the detainees, give us everything you’ve got.” Something stinks here.

GLORIA BORGER (senior politician analyst): However, they will answer any questions you may have.

JEFFREYTOOBIN (senior lawyer analyst): Yes. Why are you so upset?

BORGER – That is precisely what this investigation is all about.

CAFFERTY – How can you tell if they are going to answer your questions?

TOOBIN: Well, He is an excellent prosecutor. His record is outstanding. He is not political accountable…

CAFFERTY – Is he just like all the other prosecutors, who got fired…

TOOBIN – But Patrick…

CAFFERTY: A few months back.

TOOBIN He can’t be accused of being independent.

BORGER: Right.

TOOBIN: His sentence was reduced, but it was still a serious investigation.

BORGER He decided that he had to find out the truth, as there were some serious questions. Tom, I’m referring to you.

CAFFERTY. Why is it that they are both trying to gang up on me

[Laughter]

BLITZER: Because you’re just back

[Laughter]

TOOBIN: It’s better to be there in person

BORGER: It’s just as much fun!

[Crosstalk]

BLITZER – Governor Kean was co-chairman and a Republican. Lee Hamilton was co-chairman and a Democrat. They wrote in The New York Times“Government officials decided to not inform a lawfully constituted body created by Congress, the president to investigate one the most tragic events that confronted this country.” This is known as obstruction.

Obstruct is a technical term, but it’s a very specific one.

TOOBIN: This is a federal crime and obstruction of justice. This is what Paul clearly wants. [sic]Durham, the Connecticut attorney who will run this whole thing to establish whether, particularly those CIA officials who failed to acknowledge these tapes’ existence and destroyed them, it was a crime.

BLITZER – You’re right, you know that this…

CAFFERTY : Let me ask Jeff.

BLITZER: Yes.

CAFFERTY – Let me ask Jeff. You’re a lawyer. What executive privilege could the White House use to hide behind one of these deals is beyond comprehension?

TOOBIN: It will be difficult to investigate this case because there are issues of privilege and everything is classified. To be able to obtain the materials he must investigate will prove difficult. It will also take up most of President Bush’s term.

BLITZER

BORGER – This is just one more problem that the White House did not want and that the CIA also didn’t want. Wolf, I’m referring to the fact that this agency is currently being torn apart and will be further torn apart by this investigation.

CAFFERTY: Them did it themselves.
