As the January 6 Commission Stumbles, Who Has It Worse — The Democrats, or the Media? – Opinion

The commission continues looking for an excuse to have their meetings at this time..

All across the media landscape today, journalists were shining; Fox News finally delivered the goods! Last night, we discussed this., Liz Cheney released a series of text messages from the records subpoenaed from Mark Meadows, showing communications on January 6 by a list of prominent conservative figures – including Donald Trump Jr. and a number of Fox News names.

Meadows was asked by them to persuade Trump to make statements in order to end the attack at the Capitol. Meadows replied that he had been engaged with Trump for some time to form such an announcement.

Also, all of them were calling for an immediate halt to violence. This was not the same as conspiring with terrorists and planning a coup. If the press wanted to have its smoking gun, in text format, they would be looking at comments like, “Congratulations Mark, the plan is working!”, not, as Laura Ingraham said, “Mark, the president needs to tell people in the Capitol to go home. All of this is harmful. He is destroying his legacy.”

While the media is acting like they’ve been given endless GOP-killing stories, it will soon become clear that this was not a coordinated effort to bring in Trump supporters to overthrow government. You can also add this bombshell the increasing number of duds polluting the media landscape.

Media have been disappointed by the Jan 6 commission. They grind into their floors at work, waiting in silence for news of a new scandal. Since the commission was formed this summer, there has been an assurance in many editor’s offices that something tangible and career rendering will arrive.

Some hundreds of witnesses were called since then, with tens or thousands of documents being collected. However, the most noteworthy items have come from the witnesses that told the commission they should micturate the flag pole.

Meadows has filed suit Nancy Pelosi, and the commission that would block her subpoena powers were criticized. The reasons included insufficient numbers of members as well as lack of representation from the opposition parties. Pelosi, according to House Rules for Select Committees, famously stopped a few GOP names being submitted by Kevin McCarthy. As a consequence, there are only four members of the required number, with the two remaining GOP names being Liz Cheney (Democrat sympathizer) and Adam Kinzinger (soon to be expelled).

What has driven the journalists to become borderline batty is that after five months or so, there has been nothing at all tangible coming out of this commission in the form of evidence of…anything substantial. The lack of any red meat from Congress has led to the media being reduced to creating their own headlines and helium-inflated headlines.

Rolling Stone released a Tofurkey story right before Thanksgiving. it found Trump organizers who used burner phones on the day of the riot to…uh, do stuff. It was pretty jarring to consider until you realize this meant that the news outlet that has been a recidivist news fabricator this year allegedly had intel not in possession of the Congressional Committee – nor the FBI, for that matter. While I was already laughing, deep within the article, this happened:

Rolling Stone found no evidence that the Kremers or other rally organizers planned violence through the group text messages. But critics claim that Trump’s supporters and those who encouraged them to travel to Washington to vote are to blame.

Thank you for your input, Rolling Stone – now you can go back and sit at the kids’ table.

Mother Jones has just come out with A blathering screedThe accusation includes Glenn Younkin and all members of The Big Lie. While he won the VA governorship only by not invoking Donald Trump, his campaign was successful. However, there is no doubt that he is a threat to democracy.

The entire point of the piece is this – the press needs to ramp up the coverage of the January 6 riot next year. It is obvious that 11 months of insisting this was a coup plot hasn’t been enough. The public still hasn’t believed the claims. So, it is time to offer the solutions. Continue readingThat kind of coverage.

Another sign that they lack control in this area is their inability to handle the facts. Very early in the piece, they blithely say that this year “It began with a television-televised rebellion,” echoing so many others in the press who have already convicted the participants. You would think that after covering this story so ardently for a year they would come to realize that of the scores of people held as a result of the riot – a number approaching 700, by this date – that not a single person has been charged with insurrection.

BloombergJonathan Bernstein is now directing members of the committee to do their best to give content to the media. “The panel needs to tell the story of this uprising clearly and compellingly. So far, it’s failing.”

The best read on how well the J-6 commission is doing – that is, how poorly it is doing – Was from The Atlantic this weekendQuenta Juecic. The inproductive process is called “weirdly static,” beyond the euphemism we see what is meant; very little at all has been accomplished.

The Justice Department has yet to announce any breakthroughs in untangling the planning of the attack or unveil any blockbuster charges such as insurrection or “seditious conspiracy.” In Congress, the select committee has yet to convene any public hearings or announce new discoveries since its inaugural July 2021 hearing.

However, this does not mean there is no hope. Next, the writer goes on for almost 2,000 words about what the committee hopes to discover and how it can provide something that the media can use. This is the mindset that has led the press today to behave as if they have Fox dead to rights – they are just so desperate for anything to come out of this committee by now that they are over-excited and under-analytical.

The Stelter set would need to take half a second to process the statements of Laura Ingraham and Sean Hannity in text format, indicating that they do not believe they are behind the Capitol attack. The fact that Don Jr. was echoing them and Mark Meadows was claiming they were discussing how to curb the violence shows that there was no coordination. The probe has focused on this issue and they now show that all major participants want to stop the revolt.

In their eagerness to destroy Fox News, the press is busy throwing the football at the line from 50 yards, completely unaware that they are attempting to fumble the ball. This is trenchant journalism that they plan to use for next year.
