Vegan Woman Reports Friends to Police Because They Fed Her Chicken Nuggets When She Was Drunk

A 24-year-old vegan woman said she called the police on her friends after they fed her chicken nuggets while she was drunk, according to a Reddit post.

In the anonymous post, the young woman said that she’s been vegan for a decade since she found out where meat comes from. She thought everyone in her life respected her decision, but that changed after she got “white girl wasted” at a party a few nights earlier, she said.

According to the woman, her friends  “thought it would be funny to feed me chicken nuggets as a prank.” When she asked if the nuggets were vegan, they falsely told her the were, she recounted.

“They tasted off to me but I figured it was just because I was drunk,” she said. “I was wrong.”

The woman said she discovered the truth the next day when she checked Snapchat.

One of her friends had posted a video of the incident, which started with them displaying the nuggets packaging to the camera. The friends went on to imitate what they anticipated her reaction would be to learning she had eaten meat, including “fake crying” and yelling “the CHICKENS!!!” she said.

Outraged, the woman said she took a screen recording of the video to police, who are now facing charges related to food tampering.

“They all think that I’m overreacting to a ‘harmless’ prank, so Reddit, AITA?” she asked, referring to the name of the subreddit, AmItheAsshole.

“In my view, they took advantage of my drunken state, tampered with my food, and publically humiliated me. In their view, it was just a prank,” she said.

The woman, who used a throwaway account “[in case] this goes further,” as she put it, did not immediately respond to Pluralist’s request for further information.

Her post comes amid an international upsurge in vegan and environmental protests by climate change activists. One of the leading activist groups, Extinction Rebellion, has called for governments to crackdown on meat sales.

However, meat is currently legal in theUnited States, and federal and state food tampering laws apply only to cases in which the intent was to cause physical harm, not the psychic kind.
