No Collusion: Mueller Said Not to Have Found That Trump Helped Russia Meddle in 2016 Election

“The Special Counsel’s investigation did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia.”

Robert Mueller’s investigation did not find that President Donald Trump or any of his aides conspired of coordinated with Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election, according to a summary of the special counsel’s findings released Sunday.

“The Special Counsel’s investigation did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election,” said the memo made public by Attorney General William Barr.

The four-page letter to lawmakers also said that the nearly two-year Justice Department probe did not prove Trump illegally obstructed justice, though it said Mueller’s team stopped short of exonerating Trump.

“The Special Counsel … did not draw a conclusion — one way or the other — as to whether the examined conduct constituted obstruction,” the document said.

Barr delivered the summary of the special counsel’s findings to Congress on Sunday afternoon. He had received the full report on Friday.
The Justice Department said at the time that Mueller did not recommend any further indictments and that none of the the special counsel’s decisions were vetoed by his superiors. Twenty-five Russians were indicted during the probe on charges related to election interference, along with six Trump associates on unrelated charges.
Republicans had already been celebrating as though Trump was vindicated, whereas Democrats had sought to tamp down expectations, and promised to continue their various congressional investigations of the president. Members of both parties have called for the full report to be made public, echoing a recent non-binding bipartisan in the House. The White House had been quiet over the weekend, but had previously disparaged the Muller investigation as a politically motivated “witch hunt.”
