“Feelings don’t care about your facts.”
The man behind a popular Twitter account that parodies Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., has been permanently banned from Twitter.
In addition to losing @AOCPress, which had amassed more than 85,000 followers, Mike Morrison, a conservative politico, was booted from his nearly 60,000-follower personal account.

The reasons for the ban were unclear. According to screenshots of emails that Morrison gave to Human Events on Monday, Twitter acknowledged that clearly marked parody accounts like his are permitted. But the internet giant seemed concerned that Morrison’s scathing satire of Ocasio-Cortez’s press releases sounded too much like the real thing.
“While you may use Twitter pseudonymously or as a parody, commentary, or fan account, you may not use misleading account information in order to engage in spamming, abusive, or disruptive behavior, include attempts to manipulate the conversations on Twitter,” the email said.
“You may also not ‘post duplicative or substantially similar content, replies, or mentions over multiple accounts or multiple duplicate updates on one account or create duplicate or substantially similar accounts.”
Twitter did not immediately respond to Pluralist’s request for comment, and the company generally does not speak publicly about enforcement actions.
Although @AOCPress has been erased, Twitchy in January documented some examples of Morrison’s work.
“PRESS RELEASE: Who said socialism isn’t good? AOC is making $174K per year and she doesn’t have to work!” said one tweet.
“Feelings don’t care about your facts,” said another, in an inversion of the phrase popularized by Daily Wire editor-in-chief Ben Shapiro.
Morrison guessed that his ban had less to do with the content of his tweets and more to do with what he characterized as Twitter’s anti-conservative bias.
“They didn’t like how popular an account created by their political opposition had become,” he said.
Social media companies have lately stepped up policing of “hateful” content on their platforms – resulting in a purge of mostly right-wing users. Last month, Twitter suspended Oscar-winning actor and conservative commentator James for what appeared to be a warning to President Donald Trump alleged persecutors in the “deep state.”
However, not all mockery of Ocasio-Cortez has been snuffed out. @AOCPressBot, a Twitter bot created by a Stanford University software engineer using “Artificial Stupidity” has continued to parody the freshman congresswoman.
Note: the algorithm is using Artificial Stupidity rather than Artificial Intelligence.
