On Sunday’s episode of CNN’s Reliable sourcesDavid Zurawik, a media analyst who is also a fervent leftist, claimed Congress should regulate social media platforms after Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter.
“I think there’s a bigger problem that when we focus on the personalities of people like Elon Musk,”Zurawik complained before that too much attention is being paid to speculation about Musk’s intentions or thoughts regarding the purchase of the social media platform.
The bigger issue is how do we control communication channels in the country? We had The Radio Act in 1927 and 1934 The Communications Act. Congress intervened. We made rules. Although the FCC was not great, it still regulates broadcasting. You can’t use vulgar language, you can’t do all of these things with speech.
Zurawik wept that “we gave over what amounts to our airwaves or our internet waves to Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, and we are in so much trouble because those guys believe in making money.” Yet Zurawik and his media allies apparently have no problem with their billionaires buying media companiesLike the Washington Post.
“We’ve already seen that with the 2016 election, and Zuckerberg, when he was taking rubles for ads from Russia,” Zurawik huffed and claimed, “Musk is the same.”
Zurawik became more and more unhinged. “This is dangerous. We can’t think anymore in this country.” This caused host Brian Stelter to audibly laugh.
“No, I’m serious,” Zurawik insisted. “We don’t have people in Congress who can make regulations, that can make it work. You can also look at the West European countries for examples of how they try to control it. But you have to — you must have controls. You need regulation.”
Zurawik moaned, ending his furious tirade. “You cannot let these guys control discourse in this country or we are headed to hell. We’re there. Trump opened the gates of hell and now they’re chasing us down.”
To leftists like David Zurawik, letting people with opposing views speak openly is tantamount to being in “hell.” This shows how detached from reality they truly are.

Eastern 11:18.52DAVID ZURAWIK : I don’t think so. If we concentrate on Elon Musk’s personalities and people claim that Elon Musk thinks such things, we have a much bigger problem with how to manage the flow of communications in this country. The Radio Act was passed in 1927. The 1934 Communications Act followed. Congress intervened.
We made rules. Although the FCC was not great, it still regulates broadcasting. You can’t use vulgar language, you can’t do all of these things with speech. Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk and others have taken what amounts to our internet and airwaves. We are now in serious trouble as these guys only believe in making money.
We’ve already seen that with the 2016 election, and Zuckerberg when he was taking rubles for ads from Russia and saying “oh I think it’s crazy to think they had any influence on this election.” Musk is the same. Musk does not want the FCC to question him. Do you understand what I am saying? This is very dangerous. This country is dangerous because we do not have enough people to think.
BRIAN STELTER [laughs]
ZURAWIK : I don’t think so. We do not have the people who can regulate it. We can see how the west countries of Europe are trying to reduce it, but we need to have controls. Regulators are needed. These guys cannot control the discourse of this country. Or else we’ll go to hell. We’re there. Trump opened Hell’s Gates and is now trying to chase us down.
