Trump Flies Giant Anti-Socialism Banner Across Houston Right Before Dem Debate

The Trump campaign flew a large banner containing an anti-socialist message across the skies of Houston on Thursday ahead of a Democratic primary debate hosted by the Texas city.

According to ABC News, the banner will be flown just prior to the candidates taking the stage.

President Donald Trump’s campaign also took out full-page newspaper ads that counter Democratic ideology.

Brad Parscale, campaign manager for Trump’s 2020 reelection, tweeted out a video on Thursday showing the banner in action.

In the clip, a plane is seen flying in the sky trailed by a banner that reads: “Socialism will kill Houston’s economy! Vote Trump 2020.”

Trump’s campaign spent approximately $7,500 on the flight and banner. The ad is scheduled to fly across Houston from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. local time, ABC News reported.

Erin Perrine, deputy communications director for the Trump campaign, explained the reasoning behind the ad.

“Every single Democrat candidate has job killing, economy crushing policies that won’t work for America. Team Trump is here to remind them and let everyone in Houston know what a complete disaster Democrats are for America,” Perrine told ABC News.

The war on socialism

Many on the right, including Trump, have sought to bludgeon Democratic opponents by labeling them “socialists.”

To varying degrees, congressional Democrats have resisted the characterization. In April, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, said socialism is “not the view” of the Democratic Party at large.

Meanwhile Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, an avowed Democratic socialist, has called capitalism an “irredeemable” system that is to blame for economic inequality.
