‘It’s a boy!’
A mother from Louisville, Kentucky, celebrated the coming out of her transgender son with baby-style gender-reveal photos, which she shared on Facebook. The posts quickly went viral.

The photos: Heather Green’s first-born, Adrian Brown, announced in September that he identified as a man. To show her support and to mark his 20th birthday, Heather Green put together a photo shoot. The mother, wearing a fake baby belly, smoking a fatherly cigar, and surrounded with blue balloons, is seen introducing her child as if presenting a newborn.
In one picture, taken by the 14-year-old daughter of Green’s boyfriend, Adrian Green takes a needle to a small patch of pink balloons, popping once and for all his erstwhile femininity. In another, he’s wrapped up in a toddler quilt embroidered with the declaration, “It’s a Boy!”
The post: “When your child comes out as trans, the best thing to do is create a photoshoot to celebrate the fact that he silently and bravely stepped out of the race that he never wanted to be in, found his own lane and proceeded to win,” Heather Green wrote on Jan. 29.”
“You are without a doubt the most fascinating human I know and I will always be your biggest fan.”
A statement: Heather Green told USA Today that she is “100 percent aware that ‘outing’ [Adrian] on this level can also be dangerous because of all of the hate in the world.” But she wanted to show her son that she stands with him, regardless.
As it turned out, Green ended up encountering mostly support, as well as requests for advice from other parents who saw the glowing coverage of the event in the national media.
The photoshoot apparently had an impact on other transgender kids in their community. Speaking to USA Today, Adrian Green said his younger brother, Lucas Green, told him that a trans boy at his school had come out to his parents after the post.
“He had been considering suicide before coming out to them and because of our message he had the courage to tell them and found out that his parents were going to support them,” Green said. “He would not have had the courage had we not taken these photos.”
