Telemundo Condemns TX Governor Abbott for Calling Border Crisis An ‘Invasion’

A Telemundo report purportedly on how Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) Alejandro Mayorkas warned undocumented migrants not to come to the United States swiftly turned into a smear against Texas Governor Greg Abbott for using the word “invaders” to describe the deluge of migrants currently crossing the border into the Lone Star state.

It took just 25 seconds for anchor Felicidad Aveleyra to change the subject from ´Don´t Come´, to asking correspondent Edgar Muñoz, “Why does Gov. Greg Abbott insisted on calling immigrants Invaders?”

EDGARD MUÑOZ: In effect, Texas Governor Greg Abbott is trying to take the persecution of immigrants at the border one step further. According to The New York Times, he tries to call the large number of illegal immigrants crossing into Texas through the Rio Grande or the desert as “invaders” in an attempt to gain more power. The Texas governor is really serious about calling immigrants invaders.

A sad fact Felicidad, and I´ll share it; over the weekend, a 38-year-old Nicaraguan died precisely at Eagle Pass over the river where the National Guard did not intervene after what happened a few days ago when a member of the National Guard, unfortunately, died trying to rescue an immigrant in the river.

[…]

FELICIDAD AVELEYRA – Wow, that is a terrible situation. These people are called “invaders”.

Muñoz´s cringe-worthy answer began with him accusing Abbott of “trying to take the persecution of immigrants at the border one step further. The New York Times reports that he attempts to make the vast majority of migrants who cross the Rio Grande and desert just south of the territory as intruders to get more power. The Texas governor is really serious about calling immigrants Invaders.” The reporter admits it, too.

Yet, while the team proceeded to bring in Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador – and midterm elections- into the equation so as to validate their claim, it was the reporter´s closing comment that smeared the law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line on a daily basis to help preserve our national security.

Muñoz proceeded to condemn the Texas National Guard for failing to intervene with individuals making the illegal and extremely dangerous river crossings even after one of their members recently drowned while trying to save two (not one as the report states) migrants later found to be drug traffickers, a fact that was also omitted in the Telemundo News midday report.

As the crisis at Mexico’s border spirals downward, all eyes are on the situation. The media has encouraged and blessed it. Particularly, Spanish-speaking conglomerates continue to thrive and survive thanks to yes. Invasion The southern border.

FELICIDAD AVELEYRA: Don’t come; that´s the message that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has clearly sent to the thousands of migrants waiting to cross the southern border to enter the United States. The president of Mexico also requested that the Texas governor be notified. We go live to Edgar Muñoz from Houston. Edgar, good afternoon. Is it because Gov. Greg Abbott calls immigrants intruders.

EDGARD MUÑOZ: Well, there are many explanations, but a huge controversy has been unleashed Felicidad. We are glad to meet you. Texas Governor Greg Abbott wants to go one better in his persecution of immigrant workers at the border. According to The New York Times, he tries to call the large number of illegal immigrants crossing the Rio Grande or desert just south of the territory as invaders in order to gain more power. However, the Texas governor actually means what he says: He wants to label immigrants invading. However, experts say that he wants to declare war powers. But this would be extreme as there has never been an invasion of the military like in Ukraine. However, Governor Greg Abbott continues with the Lone Star operation, and even three days ago he said that he will invest $500 million for 10 thousand troops precisely on the border and also, we witnessed last week, the presence also of operations by governors, the governments of Tamaulipas, of Coahuila, of Nuevo León, to prevent the passage of migrants through the southern border.

AVELEYRA: Edgar, what did President Andrés Manuel López Obrador say to the governor of Texas?

MUÑOZ: Well, we’re going to hear what Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said, but really the governor of Texas is serious about it and wants to call immigrants invaders. Let’s first listen to the Mexican president.

ANDRÉS MANUEL LÓPEZ OBRADOR, PRES. MEXICO : It seems that the United States has some politicians who are already accusing me of invading my country. I’d tell him to tone it down a bit.

MUÑOZ: Well, what the president said follows the song of the Black Door, or the Golden Cage. A sad fact Felicidad, and I´ll share it; over the weekend, a 38-year-old Nicaraguan died precisely because at Eagle Pass over the river where the national guard did not intervene after what happened a few days ago when a member of the national guard unfortunately died trying to rescue an immigrant precisely in the river.

AVELEYRA: Wow- well a very sad situation. They are so delicate they have been called intruders. Edgar, thank you so much for reporting.

MUÑOZ: We will be on the lookout.
