2019 was a year of shocking statements by networks. EmpireJussie Stullett (actor), claimed that he’d been attacked in Chicago by MAGA terrorists. Now, ABC, CBS and NBC are hiding Smollett’s trial for allegedly hoaxing the whole thing.
From November 29 to December 6th, CBS did not allow any coverage on the trial. ABC was able to cover the trial for only 22 seconds. NBC managed a meager 178 seconds.
ABC is the most scandalous. This entry was posted on February 14, 2019. Good Morning AmericaRobin Roberts of devoted over 280 hours to the cause It took her 17 minutes 52 seconds “exclusive” interview of Smollett recounting his claims. Roberts practically acted as a PR agent, hailing the man who claimed MAGA-loving terrorists recognized him on the streets of Chicago in the middle of the night and happened to have a noose: “[This interview]This is his first detailed account. Chicago police said it was consistent. He said that he hasn’t altered his story, and it is credible..”
The trial has been completed so far. It began on November 29th. GMAJournalists haven’t covered the Smollett hoax case. It was instead left unreported. World News Tonight anchor David Muir. He provided this 22-second update on Monday.
Tonight, juror selection will begin in Jussie Stullett’s trial. He is charged with filing false police reports claiming that he was the victim a racist or homophobic attack. Later, he was accused of orchestrating it. Ex-extras from Empire, two brothers claim that Smollett paid them money to stage the attack.
Jussie Stullett’s trial in Chicago was decided by a jury. The six charges against Jussie Smollett include felony disorderly conduct. In 2019, he is accused of telling Chicago police that he had been attacked in a hateful crime. In an unusual decision, similar charges from earlier years were dropped. Smollett has pleaded guilty.
NBC managed 19 seconds and minutes (on November 29th). TodayYou can find the update here. And it’s not as though there wasn’t things to cover. On Thursday, Smollett’s lawyers accused the judge in the trial of “physically lunging” at them and asked for a mistrial. This motion was rejected.
The 6th of December Today co-host Savannah Guthrie explained that the actor will likely testify: “The actor is expected to take the stand in his own defense. Smollett allegedly paid two brothers to carry out a racist, homophobic attack against them in 2019. Smollett was accused of lying about the incident to police. If convicted he faces up to three years in prison.” This amounted to just 20 more seconds.
This should be enough to warrant serious network coverage, and exam, right?
The MAGA Country allegations were not mentioned in any of the stories about the hoax trial. However, it was heavily promoted back in February 2019, as we have already noted. On February 19, 2019, the MRC’s Bill D’Agostino noted, “In a January 31 segment on CBS This Morning, correspondent Dean Reynolds emphasized that the actor was ‘known for speaking out against racism and bigotry,’ adding, ‘he is also a frequent critic of the President.’”
Miguel Almaguer, a journalist at NBC reported the following on January 29, 2019. MSNBC Live that police were looking for “two suspects, apparently wearing Make America Great Again hats, though that has not yet been officially confirmed.” This is the 2019 montage video that Mr. D’Agostino created:
The whole thing would soon unravel. The story continues to unravel at court. Smollett now asserts that two of the men whom he claims he employed to carry out the MAGA attack are secret homophobes. The actor initially claimed that he had been attacked by white men.
MAGA terrorists kill a Black and gay man using a noose. This story was always an example of “too good to check” for network journalists. Now that ABC, CBS and NBC have been embarrassed with obvious falsehoods, these disreputable networks are simply trying to pretend the story never happened. This is “journalism” in 2021.
