Senator Joe Manchin, D-W. Va. was positive for COVID-19 Monday morning.
“This morning I tested positive for COVID-19. I am fully vaccinated and boosted and am experiencing mild symptoms,” Manchin tweeted.
“I will isolate and follow CDC guidelines as I continue to work remotely to serve West Virginians.”
Although the Senate is about to head off for August recess in two weeks, Manchin’s absence could sideline items that Democrats want to push before then, according to NBC News. Manchin, who is an independent senator, can sometimes make or break legislations.

Fox News reporter Chad Pergram reported that fourteen members of Congress tested positive for the virus within the last 16 days.
Manchin’s positive test means that 173 of the 117th Congress mbrs have been positive. There have been 123 such mbrs in the past year. In the past 16 days, 14 mbrs

Although the Senate is split 50-50, it has a Democratic majority because of tie-breaker Vice President Kamala Harris.
RedState reports that President Joe Biden has also been diagnosed with COVID-19. He is doing well and is still performing his presidency duties.
