Salman Rushdie Stabbed on Stage in New York – Opinion

Salman Rushdie is an author who has been threatened with death by Iran and other extremist Muslims in the 80s. He was about to present a lecture when he was stabbed.

An Associated Press reporter saw Rushdie being introduced to the Chautauqua Institution when a man stormed the platform. The man fell to the ground and was eventually taken away by the author.

Rushdie’s book “The Satanic Verses” has been banned in Iran since 1988, as many Muslims consider it to be blasphemous. A year later, Iran’s late leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa, or edict, calling for Rushdie’s death.

Iran issued a bounty of $3 million on Rushdie to reward anyone who might kill him.
