CNN contributor S.E Cupp once more demonstrated how far past conservatives could stray from their political roots. On Friday, Cupp stated that although she was “pro-life,” she believed that “should remain legal” and she opposed to “unnecessary hurdles” in obtaining one.
She made the self-contradictory comment as she was being interviewed on CNN. Day of the NewShow your reactions to the news that the FDA is allowing abortion pills to be sent to women by mail. Fill-in co-host Kaitlan Collins set up the topic: “I do want to get your take, though, on something else — a new move from the FDA, lifting some of these restrictions on being able to get this abortion pill by mail. This is something of course, it’s a medical abortion is what is referred to, and you have these pills, and now women can get them in the mail.”
Collins then sought out the reaction of Cupp, who was a conservative. What are the benefits and disadvantages of the FDA’s actions here?
As she started, the CNN reporter was instantly contradictory:
As a pro-lifer, it’s not a problem for me to make abortion more accessible. It is legal and it seems to be the law. I believe it should continue being legal but it should also remain safe. It is legal. I do not think it’s necessary to create unnecessary obstacles for patients and providers to access the information.
Cupp was added.
However, I’m concerned about safety and do-it yourself abortions. The FDA requires consent from the patient and a prescription from a doctor. This lets me know that there may be risks. And the idea that you could have an abortion without being seen by a physician– in person. Telemedicine can be done, which is what we are all doing right now. But I find that it causes me to feel uncomfortable. Also, because I support the life of the woman, I worry about her health.
It is far from the comments she made about this issue in years past, when, for example, she suggested that Planned Parenthood stop performing abortions to increase state funding, which would then allow women to have other procedures.
She suggested that, a few years back she believed that her biggest problem with attempts to ban abortions was the lack of exceptions. This was not the reason that she is against abortion in general. She has been more in line with left-leaning liberal Republicans who have spoken out on this issue in recent years.
Mara Schiavocampo (left-leaning journalist) was the other guest that spoke on the topic.

KAITLIN COLLINS: I do want to get your take, though, on something else — a new move from the FDA to remove some of these restrictions on being able to get this abortion pill by mail. You already know what a medical abortion looks like, so if you’re able to order these pills now, then women are able send them off.
This comes as you watch the Supreme Court battle for new restrictions on abortion in many states including Texas. So what do the FDA’s decisions here have to say about the benefits and drawbacks?

But I do worry about the safety and security of DIY abortions. FDA now requires patient consent as well as a doctor’s prescription. This lets me know that there may be some dangers. And the idea that you could have an abortion without being seen by a physician–
