Politico Playbook reported that executives at ABC are having trouble finding a replacement to fill former co-host Meghan McCain’s spot on The View. The conservative left almost six months ago, and they’ve yet to find a co-host who “checks all the right boxes,” Tara Palmeri wrote.
ABC know a squishy Republican who agrees with the liberal co-hosts won’t get viewers but they are too repulsed by “MAGA” Republicans at the same time. One former show staffer told Palmeri they’re trying to find a conservative “unicorn.”
Sources near the showAccording to executives, the search is stalled because they are unable to find the perfect conservative cast member. The GOP won’t consider any Republican that isn’t a believer in the 2020 elections, who embraced January 6 riots or who flirts with fringe conspiracies or the MAGA-wing of the GOP. However, they will not consider a host who is a denier of the 2020 election results, embraced the January 6 riots, or flirts too heavily with fringe conspiracy theories or the MAGA wing of the GOP. DONALD TUMP.
In other words, there’s no good conservative. What the network really wants is a moderate Democrat masquerading as a conservative, like Ana Navarro. But they know that’s not going to drive ratings, as Palmeri wrote:
The anti-Trump conservatism is also being reflected in this election. can’t be seen as too chummy with the other co-hosts, as the network’s market-research shows that the audience wants to see the women spar. According to sources, this is hurting the odds of ANA NAVARROThe regular fill in on the conservative seat who served as a surrogate JOE BIDDEN2020: Her producers perceive her as being too friendly with other hosts, and not a typical Republican.
But finding a conservative co-host who doesn’t view the former president as a saint, or Satan shouldn’t be that difficult. More likely is the reality that conservatives are not willing to take on Trump because of their inability to win.
Politico made reference to this. “Sources said that the show was eager to recruit young libertarian Kat Timpf, but she turned them down because of the show’s reputation for treating conservatives poorly and her contract with Fox,” she wrote.
Former co-hosts shared their stories of being bullied behind closed doors by the network and their hosts. These hostilities were often revealed on-air during McCain’s tenure as host.
It wasn’t just McCain. Jedediah, though less assertive than her conservative co-hosts, was still annoyed at them for just disagreeing. She may have been forced to quit the show because of the liberal backlash she received from her 2016 presidential candidate questions.
Of course there is the likelihood that ABC is so intolerant of conservatives that they don’t even want to air their opinions. The New York Post’s Karol Markowicz mocked ABC’s supposed struggle to find a conservative “unicorn:”
“Oh, please. You can just admit that you desire a display of liberals for Liberals. We all would benefit if everyone could be honest,” she said. wrote on Twitter.
In the interim, it plans to bring back some right-leaning guests hosts, including former White House aide Alyssa Fahr. It also plans to try out non-conservative co-hosts like former New York TimesBari Weiss (‘ editor) and Lisa Ling (ex-host)
