Meet Cicely Davis, The Republican Challenger Looking to Unseat Ilhan Omar – Opinion

Cicely Davis (Republican candidate for U.S. Congress), defeated Shukri AbdullahiAbdirahman & Royce White and won the official endorsement by the Minnesota Republican Party. With this victory, Davis now has the full financial and logistical support of both the Minnesota GOP (and the Republican National Committee). Davis, as the Republican nominee endorsed by the party, has the support of the entire party apparatus, which includes all officers and party members who have sworn support for Davis.

That’s quite a get, especially in light of who Davis is looking to unseat. It is Rep. Ilhan Omar, currently serving (using the term lightly) Minnesota’s District 5.

Omar is part of the so-called “Squad” that includes Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez and Ayanna Pressley. Omar, like her fellow cohorts says dumb things and works against the United States’ standards and values rather than supporting and working for her constituents.

Davis alleges that Omar does not represent Minnesota’s District 5.

“This is a tone deaf leader. She’s not present, and she’s not interested in actually being a representative of this constituency,” Davis said.

“Which is why I’m stepping up, to hold her to account.”

Cicely Davis spoke to me about her plans and how they would be achieved. There are some things that I didn’t know, and others that have been ignored about Minnesota District 5. As the demographics of the area, I discovered who was really responsible for Ilhan Omar’s election and how Davis will overcome these obstacles in order to unseat Omar so she can be replaced at the House of Representatives.

Davis mentioned that she had the advantage in spite of the difficult battle, since her District is a good place to be.

“the most pressing issues are kitchen-table issues. These issues aren’t partisan, and both Republican families as well as Democrat families care about them.

This leaves the possibility to collaborate and lead. To have present, relevant leadership that actually listens to the constituency here and lead people to the polls to vote on families.”

August 9 is Minnesota’s primaries. The summer can seem like a long time and the voters often have short memories. While Davis’ former Republican challenger Shukri Abdullahi Abdirahman has given her full-throated endorsement, the other candidate, Royce White, chose to stay in the race and will be another Republican on the primary ballot. This could lead to confusion with two Republican candidates making a case.

This statement was made by Davis after winning the Minnesota Republican Party endorsement.

“Now is the time to close ranks as a party. I’m grateful for Shukri Abdirahman’s endorsement and support, who pledged to work with my campaign. I sincerely hope that my other Republican challenger who fell short on votes today will suspend his campaign and work with me and the people of this district to build the movement necessary to win in November.”

Davis answered my questions about the Minnesota primary and how she hopes to rise above the chaos and division caused by having two Republicans on her primary ticket. Davis had some important words to say about political celebrity and the dangers it poses for true discourse and leadership.

WATCH:

Along with knowing Minnesota’s 5th District and knowing the issues that plague it, Davis has a vision about how she plans to stay connected to the constituents and not get sucked into the Capitol elitist club should she prevail in her bid to unseat Omar.

Davis is able to see the needs of her district and knows that she can fulfill them.

“The people want to know that you are willing to do the work. They’ll send a worker, they’ll send a leader to D.C.

“They don’t want someone who’s just lazy and takes that vote for granted.”

Ilhan Omar’s career thus far reflects not only taking her own constituents for granted, but the American system and the American people. My conversation with Davis revealed that her platform is the exact opposite and a pulse on issues which concern Minnesotans as well as all Americans.
