While plenty of athletes in today’s world have taken up part (or full) time jobs as social justice warriors, one athlete is forgoing his job making millions in the NFL to pursue a life dedicated to making eternal change.
Khari Willis, Indianapolis Colts’ starting safety, announced Wednesday via Instagram that his retirement from football will allow him to pursue full-time ministry.
Willis expressed his gratitude to his teammates and coaches from the Colts team for their contributions during his career. However, he stated that he will be using Sundays to do other things in the future.
“With much prayer and deliberation, I have elected to officially retire from the NFL as I endeavor to devote the remainder of my life to the further advancement of the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” Willis said.
In 2019, the 26-year old was fourth-round picked. He will end his career with 219 tackles as well as four interceptions. He played in 33 of the 39 games that he participated in over his entire career.

Colts head coach Frank Reich was incredibly supportive of Willis’ decision and wished him the best.

His decision to move on into the next phase of his ministry and life is admirable and well-respected. My prayers are with him always.
