Leadership

I Signed Up for Thought Leader. Here’s What No One Told Me

I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist. I’ve authored multiple books on betrayal. I know how to tell stories. But when it came to landing a TEDx talk – – something I felt deeply called to do – – I hit a wall for six straight years..

Application after application. Rejection after rejection.

I knew I had something important to say, my talk was titled “Betrayal: The Loss No One Talks About.” But no one was listening.

And if I’m honest? I didn’t know how to make them.

Then Taylor Conroy’s face kept showing up on my Instagram feed, “they help people land TEDx talks”.

At first, I scrolled past. But after receiving seven rejections in a row in one fall season, I said, “Enough already.” I was done spinning my wheels. I needed help.

Why I Finally Said Yes

I’m not one to jump into programs based on ads. But I also knew I couldn’t keep doing what I was doing. So I watched everything I could find, read every review, and eventually, I signed up.

What I found wasn’t some fast-track, pay-to-play PR scheme. It was structured. Feedback. Clarity.

What the Process Actually Looks Like

The Thought Leader team doesn’t promise placement. They promise preparation. The frameworks and feedback loops forced me to reimagine how I was telling my story.

I realized I had been burying the lead in my own story. Thought Leader helped me get clear on what truly mattered in my message not just to me, but to my audience. That made all the difference.

After delivering my TEDx talk, something changed. Yes, there was the satisfaction of achieving a long-term goal. But more than that, I watched as people responded. Viewers told me my talk helped them understand themselves and their pain in a way they hadn’t before.

That’s why I do what I do.

What No One Tells You

Here’s the truth: It’s not someone handing you a microphone and a stage. It’s a system for people with something meaningful to say and the grit to refine it.

If you’re looking for a plug-and-play speechwriting service, keep scrolling. But if you have a mission and are willing to work through your message, then it’s worth it.

This wasn’t just a speaking program for me. It was a platform for my truth.

And that’s what no one told me.

Looking back, I didn’t just land a TEDx talk—I reclaimed my voice in a new way. Thought Leader didn’t hand me a spotlight; they helped me earn it by shaping my truth into something that could truly reach others. For six years, I tried to do it alone. But sometimes, even seasoned storytellers need guides. If you feel like your message matters but no one’s hearing it, don’t give up. With the right support, you won’t just get on stage—you’ll speak in a way that resonates. That’s what this gave me. Not just an opportunity, but impact that lasts.
