Hollywood Recruits Feminist Starlets to Get Naked and Fight the Patriarchy in Stripper Movie

“Gay, and I cannot stress this enough, rights!”

A diverse female cast is reportedly being assembled for an upcoming movie about a group of former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients.

According to a Deadspin article Tuesday, rapper Cardi B will make her feature debut in “Hustlers” alongside Jennifer Lopez, Julia Stiles, Lili Reinhart, and Constance Wu, among others.

Transgender actress Trace Lysette is reportedly in negotiations to join the film, and she suggested in a tweet Tuesday that she may already be on board.

More women: Lorene Scafaria will write and direct the movie, which is inspired by a 2015 New York Magazine article by Jessica Pressler. The drama takes place in New York City after the financial crisis, Deadspin said. Shooting will start Friday and a premiere is planned for 2020.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with this dynamic group of women,” said Scafaria. “We’re grateful to have assembled such a powerhouse cast and can’t wait to start filming at the end of the week.”

The inclusive casting and progressive premise – with female heroes plotting to bilk rich male villains – got liberal media outlets gushing.

“So you’re telling me that Cardi B, JLo, and Julia Stiles are teaming up for a movie about strippers getting revenge on the patriarchy?” Gay, and I cannot stress this enough, rights!” Out magazine exclaimed.

“How could you make a movie about New York strippers without New York’s most visible stripper?” asked Vulture, showing its love for hometown girl Cardi B, whose real-life stripping past has helped make her a feminist icon.

Lopez, Stiles, Reinhart, and Wu have also claimed the feminist mantle. For her part, Lysette is a transgender activist and was an early joiner of the #MeToo movement. In November 2017, she accused Jeffrey Tambor, her costar on Amazon’s “Transparent,” of sexual harassment, which he denied before leaving the show.

Progressive Twitter was excited, too.

At a time when Hollywood has struggled to keep up with mounting demands for wokeness, and particularly representation, “Hustlers” seems to check all the boxes. But it’s still early days.
