The housing market’s insane, so you have to get something whenever the getting’s good.
Maybe that’s why a home in Fairfax, Virginia recently sold despite a potentially transaction-killing quirk.
According to NBC News reports, the 3500-square foot five-bedroom, 4-bath abode is built in 1964.
Threety-three year later it was finally sold for $319,000.
On April 15th it was listed at $805,000
Five more cash offers were made after the deed had been completed.
The best thing about this house is that it comes with someone who has lived in it.
Unknown, the basement.
The “Home Details” on Zillow.com sound sufficiently fine. It’s sort of.
A great chance to purchase a property in Mantua Large, spacious colonial on cul de sac street. Big kitchen with door to deck area — renovated years back with 42-inch cabinets, vinyl floor, and Formica countertops. Some windows are original, others have rotted. The sliding door to the family area would need replacement. Dishwasher isn’t working The powder room toilet has a leak in the lower floor and is not shut off. Deck supports appear to be in good shape, not to today’s code, and upper decking boards are in poor shape. The lower level has a walkout basement that includes a legal bedroom, full bathroom, storage and a large living space. All walls are in neutral colors and in great condition. It will cost one to replace the carpet in bedrooms and main level. [upper level]Wood floors), deck surface improvement, replacement of sliding doors, wood rot around windows and exterior trim painting. Three toilets were replaced with one light at a cost of around $25K.
In short: “Home is livable but needs some TLC.”
And then?
CASH ONLY – NO ACCESS. Lower level home to be seen.
Deal-breaker?
Zillow Gone Wild’s Instagram account saw the listing, which was liked by 35,000 people.

“Is the basement haunted? Feels like the basement is haunted.”
And:
“800k for five-bedroom, four-bath and your own serial killer.”
One person saw the positive side of things:
“It’s like you’re buying a house and getting a person for free.”
Is there anyone in the world who would buy a house if a person is still living inside it?
New York Post offers insight into the New York Post’s piece, which was published before any contracts were signed.
Zinta Rodger-Rickert, the listing agent with RE/MAX Gateway, told The Post this was a case of a squatter who refuses to leave — and is taking advantage of an elderly sick man.
“Three years ago, a woman was cleaning the senior owner’s house and she convinced him that she needed a place to stay,” Rodger-Rickert said. “So he offered her the basement, but then she never left. And she does not pay rent.”
“It is essentially an individual taking advantage of a senior who is ill and currently in the hospital. He will likely end up in hospice,” Rodger-Rickert added.
Your roommate is refusing to leave:
[Seller Thomas Burke]Rodger Rodgert, who is now 79 years old, said to The Post that Rodger Rodgert does not possess a will. He also stated that the family hopes to have the property sold before his death. (They don’t have the resources to hire a lawyer to work on the squatter’s eviction.)
Do you think that would tempt you enough to spend three-quarters+ million dollars on your purchase?

Here’s more:
Virginia law states that it’s illegal to turn off utilities or deny her access until a proper court order is issued.
“We are hoping the next owner will want to deal with that process,” Rodger-Rickert added.
Sounds like a dream deal.
Within three days of the property being listed on the market, it was sold.
