David Hogg Snarks at Christian Gun Owners by Asking ‘How Many AR-15s’ Jesus Had

“Jesus had just as many AR-15s as his government did.”

Gun control advocate David Hogg was ridiculed on social media Friday after attempting to criticize gun owners by asking “how many AR-15s” were owned by Jesus, the first century figure who Christians believe is the omnipotent and immortal incarnation of God the Son.

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School alum, who is heading to Harvard University in the fall, was responding to a pro-Second Amendment declaration by Vice President Mike Pence, who pledged that “the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” under President Donald Trump’s administration.

Hogg replied to Pence’s message with a tweet of his own and laid the snark on thick in an apparent dig at the vice president’s much-discussed devotion to Christianity.

The tweet sparked swift criticism from Twitter users.

“They werent invented back then. Plus, he’s God, so what weapons would he need?” queried Resurgent writer Susan Wright.

Former Trump White House aide Sebastian Gorka was even more forceful in his pushback.

“There’s stupid. And then there’s MORON,” Gorka tweeted in reply to Hogg.

Other commenters used Biblical knowledge to refute Hogg’s attempt to paint Second Amendment-supporting Christians as hypocrites.

“Jesus told his disciples to take up their swords at one point. Nehemiah armed his people while they built the walls of Jerusalem. That action PREVENTED a war from happening,” wrote one user.

Hogg has become a controversial figure since emerging as a prominent gun control advocate in the wake of the Parkland shooting that claimed the lives of 14 of his classmates. Many liberals have suggested criticisms of the outspoken activist are off-limits due to his status as a mass shooting survivor. Conservatives have pushed back, however, arguing that the media’s elevation of Hogg’s public profile, as well as the future Harvard student’s aggressive advocacy for his favored cause, make him fair game.
