“It’s time for her to show she is not all talk.”
The petition targets the Walt Disney Company, which owns the subsidiary studio that produces popular Marvel Cinematic Universe films such as “Captain Marvel” and “Avengers: Endgame.”

“We need Brie Larson to step down from her role to prove she is an ally of social justice and ensure a gay woman of color plays the role,” the petition reads. “Let Monica, the original female & BLACK Captain Marvel instead of white-washing characters for the benefit of the straight, white men running Disney.”
The petition’s creators, citing an industry website that tracks celebrity donations, claim the actress has not “donated money to any charity other than The Motion Picture and Television Fund Foundation.”
“[It’s] time for her to show she is not all-talk,” the petition reads.
“I don’t need a 40-year-old white dude to tell me what didn’t work about ‘A Wrinkle in Time,’” Larson said last year at an awards event. “It wasn’t made for him! I want to know what it meant to women of color, biracial women, to teen women of color.”

On Monday, Larson, complained that Marvel needed to “move faster” on LGBT representation in its films.

“I’m happy to be on the forefront of the normalisation of this type of content and to prove once again that representation matters. Diverse storytelling matters, the female experience matters, and these are markers. It’s something I’ve always known and I think a lot of people always knew,” she said during Variety’s “Big Ticket” podcast.
“I don’t understand how you could think that a certain type of person isn’t allowed to be a superhero. So to me it’s like, we gotta move faster. But I’m always wanting to move faster with this stuff,” she added.
It appears that many of Larson’s fellow progressives agree with that sentiment, and are now asking the actress to live out her stated ideals.
The petition comes following the smashing success of “Avengers: Endgame,” in which Larson reprised her role as Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel.
The blockbuster earned $1.2 million worldwide in just five days, and $350 million in the United States alone. Fully 90 percent of Americans who went to the theater over the weekend chose the movie.
At the same time, the Rotten Tomatoes score for the grand finale of the Avengers franchise was a robust 95 percent. Critics Consensus: “Exciting, entertaining, and emotionally impactful, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ does whatever it takes to deliver a satisfying finale to Marvel’s epic Infinity Saga.”
