Liberals Protest Trailer for Lesbian Batwoman: She’s Not Even Black or Jewish

“No thank you. Also take back captain marvel too, thanks.”

The CW released the first official trailer for its forthcoming “Batwoman” drama on Tuesday, and liberal fans were divided.

The TV show has been touted as a landmark for social justice. It features the first openly LGBT live-action superhero lead in lesbian protagonist Kate Kane. And genderqueer actress Ruby Rose plays the starring role.

“Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (star Ruby Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence,” reads the CW’s official description of the show.

The official “Batwoman” Twitter account posted the trailer along with the teaser: “Protector of Gotham. #Batwoman is coming soon to The CW!”

While an official release date has not been announced, Rose appears ready for action in the 20-second clip. Wearing a red wig, a bat mask, and a form-fitting black and red bodysuit, she surveys Gotham, cape flapping behind her.

Fans anticipated seeing Rose in the full role, with some even sharing pictures of themselves in Batwoman masks.

But other Twitter users were less enthused. A lot of people said they were just tired of woke superheroes.

“No thank you,” someone commented in response to the show’s talk of social justice. “Also take back captain marvel too, thanks.”

On the other hand, liberal Twitter users were upset that the show wasn’t woke enough. While Rose identifies as a lesbian, concerns were raised that because she’s gender-fluid, she doesn’t really qualify as gay, and so isn’t “representative.”

Others argued that the “Orange Is the New Black” actress doesn’t accurately reflect the comic book Batwoman’s “diversity” because Rose is not Jewish and does not identify as a lesbian.

Still others demanded that Batwoman be played by a gay woman who is both black and Jewish. They launched a #RecastBatwoman hashtag Twitter campaign to promote their view.

The controversy echoed one that flared up last year when Rose was initially cast in the role.

She eventually quit the platform in response to the backlash.
