Alabama Man Gets Run Over by ATV Driven by His Own Dog

An Alabama man was injured on Thursday after an all-terrain vehicle driven by his own dog ran him over.

Local authorities say the dog had been tied to the four-wheeler and pushed on the throttle in an attempt to escape, CBS affiliate WKRG reported.

The dog owner had stopped at a bakery. That’s when the canine attempted to run off and somehow tangled his leash on the throttle.

The subsequent jolt threw the rider off the vehicle and then he was run over.

The Loxley man’s condition was serious enough that he was airlifted to a local hospital.

Traffic on a nearby highway temporarily shut down as rescue workers transported the dog owner by way of a medical helicopter.

Loxley police said the unnamed man is in stable condition. The dog was not seriously injured either and was temporarily placed in police custody until family members could recover her, according to WKRG.

Strangely enough, an ATV-driving dog isn’t an unheard of occurrence

A video of a dog driving an ATV went viral in 2016 after it was posted to the Fun With Pup and Jane Facebook page.

To date, the video has racked up more than 2 million views and led the pup to make an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2017.
